I have found Natwest to be really good a flat rate of £5:00 for all automated transactions .

Good customer service with any questions answered pretty quickly.

Also they open at 8:45 on a morning so if i need to pop in before work 15 mins makes a difference . Mike

santander used to be free.  but not sure if its the same for new customers.  their bank charges are insane though.  £40 for an unpade standing order etc.  im considering joinging the FSB and getting co-op banking

Hi you can open a normal business account with the coop and pay a small ammount in charges or free if you have £1000 in the account and you can swap over to a fsb account whenever you like.

when was in the Post Office the other day, lady was tellin me theyr now doin biz banking, gave me a leaflet and told me i can open it online.  but i found i couldnt, you hav to go in to do that. still its another option .

i find halifax and nationwide dont ask questions if you use a personal account long as you dont pay in too many cheques in 1 go.  lady in the halifax knows what im up to with this minor fiddle ,and always shouts over to me, but in a friendly tone,  im gonna buy her chocs at Xmas so she stays on my side

another tip-dont ever tell your family about runnin a business thru a personal account- my dear ol mum hurried in to town once she heard and confessed all at the HSBC  and they were onto me like a pack of dogs . i can now only go in there about twice a year its embarrasing

I have always banked with Lloyds and find their business account to be easy to use and manage online. As most of my window cleaning clients pay by SO or BACS I have an account that charges less for electronic & cheque pay-ins but more for cash deposits.

I put all cheques BACS & SO in the business acct but pay cash into the personal one.
Santander lost some cheques last year. Not risking it with cash.
That's been my only issue with them in 6 odd years.

I bank with Barclays but was thinking of moving so went to every bank/building society in my town and asked for a copy of the charges.
I sat down and compared every one but Barclays worked out to be cheapest so for the time i stayed where i was.
Its not all about cost though so would change if the service deteriorated

Santander for me, been with them for over 3 years now.

Haven't paid a penny. Free cash deposits, fee internet banking, free bank transfers -- both send and deposit. Get 150 free cheque deposits then I think it's £1.50 a cheque (not that I have even come close to 150 cheques a year).

If you go overdrawn I think you have to pay £40 ish.

So a good deal for me.

Which is the bank that photographs your cheques when you pay them in, so you have a record of them?

Maximum of 75 cheques in one sitting.
I did 75 once. The receipt was bloomin massive!

I had banked free with Alliance & Leicester for 10 years until Santander took over, initially it was free, now they charge £7.50 flat rate per month.

My wife has her company with Natwest, they do seem the most efficient but they also charge for it! Cash and chq deposits etc etc but they also send texts to your phone for every payment put into your account which can help keeping track and save checking payments online.

Exactly what sort of Natwest account do you lads have? We're paying £80 a month in charges to Natwest.
