Never buy them, rusty wreaks in only1 year of use.
We have 8 08 plates. All dropping to bits.

1.Rust
2.Tank like driving style
3. Noisy

I passed a transporter load going out of southampton docks last week , and had a good look , being  in the passenger seat :( , they were all new unregistered , all had rust runs coming out of the sills.
I have a 52 plate with 177k on the clock , runs lovely , but the rust is terrible, I have waxoyled it underneath , and blasted and sprayed the sills ,  will only last a year before it needs doing again though.  Glad I did not speand 15k on it.

I've had three ford vans before (two connects and an escort << i know tell mean about it) and maybe i got luck but only had minor rust problems with the escort, the back door hindges sheered off. Having said thhat i usualy get rid if its getting near 90,000 miles.

I used to sell commercial vehicles and would never buy a Transit.

They start rusting in no time. I swear they dip the damn things in salt water before they go on sale or something.

The Ford vans were always the worst when it came to work needed to get them through MOTs.

Absolute sheds.

I've done all sorts in my time.

Just about to get into the courier game again though.

I certanily won't be using a Transit though that's for sure.

You can google reviews for any make of van and find horror stories, it is down to choice . VW crafter has some terrible reviews, yet it is almost identical to a merc sprinter.

We've had the Vauxhall Movano / Renault Master 2.5 CDTI for the last six years (replaced every three years) and have never had a problem. We used to have the Transit but by comparison they are noisier, drink more fuel and rust like F__k.

All true. Had a Transit on loan which was rusty after a year. I purchased a Vauxhall Vivaro which I still have after four years. Not a area of rust on it.

My sign-written transit gets washed about once a year (if I'm organised ;D).

It is just over 11 years old (I bought it new) and has 103000 on the clock. There is a certain amount of rust round the rims and doors.

Sevice and MoT usually comes to about £600-£700pa. No other running costs besides tax, insurance & petrol.

Quite happy with my trouble free motoring and hasn't impacted upon my ability to generate work.

Bit like a customer saying my £40 a sqm wool cream carpet looks like you know what after six months.

Depends how you look after it.

Mark

PS. Ive the new transit and cant fault it apart from I bought a blue one instead of white.  Big mistake.  Needs washed every hour.

My VW Transporter will be 8 years old in April, just about to trip 120,000. Serviced every 10,000 & other than the usual Brake Discs & Pads, Tyres & Exhaust, the only other thing that has ever gone on it was an injector a few years ago. Hoping to get hold of a newer one in the near future.

During our bad winter late December 2009, my Citroen Relay slid back down a drive and was stopped by the gate post. More damage was done trying to get the van off it.
Anyway dented and scoured rear door post, with all the paint taken off, down to the metal. It has been like that for 14 months as I have not got around to getting it done. Fortunately being Galvanised there no sign of any rust at all.

The Ford vans were always the worst when it came to work needed to get them through MOTs.

Mine went for it's MoT last week, it's on an X plate so that makes 11 years old.
Total work required.......Nil, zero, zilch, naff all  ;D
Even though I had put £1,000 aside to deal with any issues  ;D

But I suppose all things being equal it makes up for the new FIP I had to have a couple of years back.....cost £1,000
