Call from the police this morning
« on: December 01, 2020, 08:08:08 pm »
I was called by the police this morning.

I was told to stop cleaning the windows of someone as they hadn't agreed to it.

Funny how they had signed up for an 8 weekly service!

Can't believe they didn't have the bottle to call me and cancel themselves.

£45 lost as I cleaned it yesterday.

Why are the police getting involved in a civil matter? I hope you told them to **** off!

Yeah that's really annoying especially taking into account it doesn't sound like a quick and cheap job.  Like you say it's very strange that they didn't just tell you themselves that they didn't want it done anymore.  Presumably they were just using you for a one off clean but didn't want to say so initially.  The least they could have done is let you know not to come again by text though which would have been less awkward for them than actually talking to you over the phone.

Not a wind up mate. Irritated me all day.

I called the customer after but the phone line had been disconnected.

Are you sure this is genuine the police don’t deal with civil matters , I think it’s a hoax the only time they get involved is when someone is being ripped off by some cowboy firms charging exorbitant prices for sub standard work usually roofing .

Couple of months ago I got a phone call from our local PCSO asking if I would mind going to an address and climb through the upstairs window of a lady who had locked herself out of her house 😂

Cheeky fecker tutted and sighed when I told him I’ve got better things to be doing and suggested he do the same.

Maybe you come across as intimidating and/or aggresive and you do not realise it ? It is very odd for someone to call the Police over this but i also find it odd that you think they need "bottle" to call and cancel you.

I've only met them once!

If they don't need bottle maybe they need common courtesy.

I think you've been had - ring back the local nick and ask to speak to that officer - insist on an incident number

Why would anyone do that as a joke?

Unless it's someone wanting to steal the job?

It's not a joke, they don't want to pay you. The only way I can see police being involved is if they say you are harassing them or they are accusing you of trespass.

Because the police wouldn't JUST ring up - did you get the offers name and number ?

when I started out I had a spat of 2 or 3 prank calls - a made up address, a non existent quote at a house and a "police call - regarding me canvassing" - when I asked for their ID the phone went dead...

There are just some nasty people out there..   ( or kids thinking they are clever )

Didn't really think about the legitimacy of it at the time as it caught me off guard.

Sounded very real.

Also they had the customers address and I had cleaned it yesterday.

I may just go knock the customers door to find out whether it was real.

Where did the police get your number from to ring you Jay?

My ex girlfriend reported me for harassment years ago and the police just turned up to give me a warning.

I dont think they would phone you but who knows.

Either way i dont reckon they want to pay. Some people are just scum, i took on over 100 new custs since sept and so far i have 8 of them who dont seem to have any intention of paying.

If you have evidence of your agreement then get a small claims filed.

If you think it is a ruse by your customer to avoid paying, explain to them that if they do not pay immediately you will report the matter to the Police, as it is an offense and they take seriously people impersonating Police Officers.

A customer once did it to me. Rang up impersonating a police occifer , telling me not to clean this house and to never darken their door again.
I could it wasn't real dibble because they didn't sound out of breath or greet me with "hello hello hello". So I rang the police and I ended up with two stations.
Not a bad result.

Send them a bill for £45 giving them 14 Days to pay or you will issue a CCJ against them.  Make sure you do it if they don’t pay

I doubt it. The fact that the phone number you had sounds disconnected points towards this.

Some questions ... can you see what number the "police" called you from? Were you given a name of the officer? A genuine officer would have identified themselves.

Think about it; imagine you are a real police call handler and someone phones up and asks you to phone the (insert any tradesman) because they have put a bill through your door. They will ask if you have contacted them and what the conversation was before they would even dream of getting involved.

It's a game of three halves!
