Leaflet prices ?
« on: July 28, 2015, 11:02:50 am »
Just looking at getting some 400gm A6 double sided flyers and saw these- http://www.printgatewayv2.co.uk/pricelist/act_cart.cfm?id=FQ17286&pass=mpw249403&addtocart=true&sub=149-1000265089&tab=flyers&material=400gm%20Art%20Board%20Silk%20Finish&service=expressplus&digital=N&favourite=FALSE

Does this look like a reasonable price, they said they would give a better price for larger number, looking at 8-10k a month ?

Those look a bit like tissue paper, and would probably scrunch into a horrible mess on the doormat  ;D
Found these which look a cracking deal -

No they don't.......

looking at the links you've given you wouldn't  know a cracking  deal if it bit you on your ar$e ;)

The UK print industry is dead, most of the small companies have sold thier print machines and now work as reseller for print-carriers (a company based in the Netherlands)  they talk like they have a big factory but it's just some bloke sat in his spare room redirecting your order and putting 20% on the price for his trouble

They could make them in their back garden for all I am concerned !     All I know is if you are putting tissue paper through peoples letter boxes it wont reflect well on your business  ;D

You and Mike are spending too much time over insignificant issues period!  I am not a Millionaire either,  I started in  my house with a 6 year old Citroen Relay and a bag of Tiling Tools.  Attention to detail is very important and so is saving money but this is akin to:

Driving  your van 10 miles to save a penny a litre
Or driving 10 miles and paying £2.25 to park to gain 1 cent extra on the exchange rate buying a couple of hundred Euros ;D ;D ;D

But it's not about crying over pennies, I'm just trying to give a cost effective answer to Sams question . printcarrier offer amazing quality at excellent prices. I could buy from the links given above but why pay an extra £3000 more year ? It's common sense  not penny pinching.

You will have to expand on the £60 a week bit difference!  How many leaflets a week do you distribute  and what do they cost PA?

Just ordered 10k double sided 400gm for £160 !     Mike you have the folded leaflets I think, but I use the postcard type so they are chalk and cheese !    If I order in greater quantity they are going to give me a better discounted rate  ;D
I have had cheap looking flyers through my letterbox, and they go straight in the bin, but if they are expensive looking I will give them a second glance !

IMO..  You've made a mistake buying 400gm card,  leaflets are about maximum numbers going through letterboxes not the thickness of the leaflet.

do the maths  and compare the total cost for printing and delivery of your cards against the  the cost of using 135gm then work out how many more you could have delivered using the thinner  leaflet.

Plus it's impossible to  put something in the bin without looking at it, the thickness makes no difference  you will glance and it and in a second make the decision whether it contains something that is of interest, if it's of no interest it could be on inch thick card it will still be binned .

We are in the numbers games looking for that 1 in a 1000 who is interested... the bigger the number we can afford to put out  the better the chance we  find that one person

Appreciate that Mike, but when I have delivered myself I found that when putting the thin flyers through the letterbox, those nasty brushes they have on the inside of the letterbox just destroy the leaflet !
You should invent some kind of devious equipment to hold the letterbox open while sliding the flyer through without it getting damaged  ;D
I would love to the delivery myself, but it is so so boring, and time just stands still, most I have done in a day was 800  ::)roll

Tell you what I did notice though, when we tried posting business cards got twice the response, maybe a fluke dunno  :-\

hold a wad of 50leaflets in you hand, bend a leaflet over the end, then open the letterbox with one hand and push the full wad halfway through the letterbox then extract leaving the bent over leaflet behind..... hope this makes sense, stops dogs biting your fingers as well

or use a wooden spoon, our local lads use a 10inch piece of plywood

I have never done Leaflets because they wouldn't work for us but surely after taking into account design time, printing and distributing costs it must be cheaper to have a full page in a Local Magazine offering 10% Discount with a code on all services?  Or sending them to your Free local newspaper for insertion  as they already have a distribution system in place???  Just thinking about alternatives and I may be totally wrong ::)roll

Kev do you do domestic properties? ( up market ones I would guess) if so I would not discount using leaflets.

we have a local very high class magazine called Yorkshire Life who basically showcases Yorkshire. I think all counties have them, I remember staying in a hotel in Cheshire that had one in the room called Cheshire Life, they have all the society weddings and adverts from the estate agents selling million pound plus homes.

I would bet a leaflet insert in these high class magazines would work really well, I would look into doing it but the county of Yorkshire is just too big for the type of work I do.

On your comment about insertion into local free papers, they do offer this service but lots do it so you would be one of many and its 'inside' the newspaper so unless the homeowner  actually read the free paper they will never see your leaflet

I sent the artwork, which was approved.  later they told me they couldn't proceed with the order as they didn't have the artwork for the other side of the flyer ( I ordered double sided )   I told them it was to be the same on both sides, and the reception woman person couldn't accept this as a concept, and it took several minutes to persuade her  ;D

Samson, check out this post on the carpet cleaning section

http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=197397.0

It's about a group of carpet cleaners meeting up in Sheffield, I'm going,

is Huddersfield. very far away from this meeting point? If you come we could have a good chat about leaflets and you could talk to other cleaning professionals about marketing and using leaflets, I know they will be carpet cleaners but the marketing concept is the same.
