After Care - Floor Care Instructions
« on: July 19, 2013, 10:56:01 am »
I began to wonder after having a conversation with a lady yesterday evening how many of you restore / clean floors and then offer a set of After-care - Floor Care Instructions.

We as a company Marblelife Ltd have always done this.  There are several reasons but mainly after spending a lot of money with us the last thing we want is a client to go back to their old ways of cleaning and wreck the good work we have done and more importantly they have paid for.

I realise that there will be those of you out there who say by installing a floor care maintenance plan we are taking away future top up work.  However, we as a company feel we owe it to our clients to educate them on after care.

Stone whether polished or honed can get damaged very quickly if the wrong products are used to maintain it.  So this is what we tell most clients.

1.  Prevention is better than cure!  Install good quality mats inside and outside these reduce drastically the grit and dust being traipsed inside and therefore reduces scratching.
2.  Never Vacuum or Sweep natural stone as both processes cause micro scratching and abrasions to the stone.
3.  Only use pH Neutral cleaners for daily maintenance and even then only use the recommended ratio of product to water.

Our recommended process to maintain the floor is as follows:

1.  Ensure there is good quality interior and exterior mats fitted where possible!
2.  Use a flat continental swiffer mop pre treated with a silicone spray.
3.  Using this method start in one area and do not lift the mop off the floor until you reach the end of the room.
4.  Mop the floor with a good quality Kentucky Microfibre mop using a professional bucket on wheels with a wringer with the appropriate pH Neutral cleaner.
5.  Finally lightly dry buff the floor with the swiffer again but this time with no silicone spray.
6.  Every 6 months or so use a high alkaline cleaner as directed for a deep clean and then continue with steps 3-5.

Naturally we offer the above as a complete floor care kit.  So the client gets:

Kentucky Mop Bucket on Wheels with Wringer (Household Size)
Kentucky Flat Mop Handle & Holder with two Mop Heads.
Tin of Molt Net Silicone Spray.
Professional Continental Swiffer Long Hair Mop either 60 or 75 cm depending on the size of the floor.
2 x Litres of pH Neutral Cleaner
1 x Litre of High Alkaline Cleaner.

This gives the client enough product for 6 months or so and if you change the pH neutral cleaner to a 4 litre size then they have enough for over a year.

These kits can also be used on all hard floors and that includes wood by the way.

We sell on average around 25-30 of these kits a month and they bring repeat business for the contractor who did the floor in the first place.

No the silicone dries within a few minutes and helps the already long hair mop attract the dust and grit.  By the way it also creates an aroma that most people find very pleasant
