Paint Spills on Tarmac Driveway
« on: April 23, 2010, 08:02:48 am »
Hi All,

I'm a window cleaner that's been asked to jetwash a tarmac drive, which has two large paint spills on it. Will it come off normally using my pressure washer, or should I treat it with some chemicals first?

Regards A

Be very carefull if applying any chemicals to tarmac as they can do more harm than dood if left on too long  ;)

On a recent store clean I was asked to go over and have a look at two large paint spills - brand new Tarmac!!

Initial words were No chance!!!

Remembered I had some turps in the trailer and said I would give it a go. The patches were about 3 foot round, lots of splashes and the whole area was a mess. It was where the skips had been and the paint had obviously spilled out of the bottom.

In the past I have seen them use a warming plate to get the Tarmac soft, re rake it and then compact it again. Couldn't do this because it would have changed the colour of the Tarmac.

Dropped a load of Turps on it, brushed it in, with a hard brush, left it to dwell and set about it with a turbo nozzle.

Took a while but it shifted about 90%.
