Title: New van sign writing.
Post by: Mike Halliday on April 27, 2019, 06:46:30 am
So my van is going  to the scrapyard in the sky :'( :'(

I’ve replaced it with a high roof LWB sprinter.

I’m having a bit of a trouble deciding on how to sign write it. I’ve always gone for very noticeable sign writing but as I now offer multiple services I think I should go very minimalistic  and list nothing just have my name (if I list everything I offer it could look like i’m a jack of all trades) I’m already incredibly well known in the very small area that I work, people know me as ‘henry’  and strangers will greet me in shops by my name or chat to me in supermarket queues using my name.

I quite like how Laura Ashley signwrite their vans with a block of colour then their name in the middle, it’s almost as they believe everyone knows who they are so do’t need to say anything else....

What do you think should just do as everyone else and list the services I offer with my name

I think just you name in big writing would not instantly describe the service to new potential new customers  ...

might be worth giving a few hundred to a pro graphic designer  , they may come up with some clever logo or play on your name or initials  , with an overall more descriptive message .

John that’s what my wife said,  I should let people know what I do.  often I will be cleaning a drive from a leaflet and they will see the van And say....."I didn’t  realise you cleaned carpets  will you give a quote on my living room"

I was thinking of maybe having a tag line under my name say.....

HENRY HALLIDAY & SON
Professionally Cleaning your home and business ... inside & out

I need to decide today as I have to let the sign writer know tomorrow

With all due respect I don’t think you have quite reached Laura Ashley or John Lewis status yet!

I scoffed when I saw your van because I thought you were advertising Billy Smarts Circus but over the years it has sort of grown on me and I can understand why you are recognisable in your local community.

So why not go for a mixture of the two and retain the animal theme in a type of wrap and have plain writing in the middle saying something like

HENRY HALLIDAY & SON
PROFESSIONAL CLEANING SERVICE FOR DOMESTIC & COMMERCIAL PREMISES
INTERIOR & EXTERIOR
[/size]

Then on a van that size you could even list exactly what you do

certainly nothing wrong with what you came up with  ,   for me personally i would have to run it by a professional in case i missed a trick ,  a good sign will would pay for itself several time over .
kevens suggested animal theme ... for me it looks like you do bouncy castle hire on the side ... just confuse the message imho

Thought about putting this, my wife mentioned the fact that I want to concentrate on the exterior cleaning do should just put that (ignore the spelling mistakes)

out of those two , i think id lean towards the top one ( blue house )    ...     in that position it would be hidden when the doors open ( if that matters to you )        perhaps a  list of services could be elsewhere  , might be no harm to mention carpets ?

I always try to put myself in my customer’s shoes or potential customer’s shoes and I’m not sure Joe Public  would know what exterior cleaning means, I think it needs a little more information.
