anyone got a 4200w guttervac
« on: August 05, 2013, 06:38:17 pm »
hi

i do loads of gutters with a 3kw vac but i'm getting quite a bit of higher commercial work and was thinking of getting one of the 4200w guttervacs. i've got a honda stephill 5kva generator 240v/110v but it only has 2 x 16 amp 115V and 2 x 16 amp 230V sockets. but 4200w/240v = 17.5amps which is more than my genny and also more than a standard 13amp plug socket.

what do you use to run these big vacs? or can i use 2 x 16amp sockets together in some way?

any advice appreciated

I have a 110v 4200w omni and to be honest I think my 240v 3000w CFM sucks better. I have a 6.5kva generator

oh that's interesting, to be honest there's not been anything i can't tackle yet with my 3kw vac but i thought it would be handy to have a bit more oopmh.

maybe i'll hold fire for a while then. thanks for your help :)

i was chatting to someone who was selling a 240v omni and he said all 3 motors run fine off a household 13amp plug socket. but at 4200w they need more than 13amp? would the motors run but just not as powerful or would it trip a breaker on the fuse box?

3kw should be about max on a plug - sequencial start helps but don't be fooled by the label  ;)

There are 3000 Watt Vacs and 3000 Watt Vacs!  Just like there are 21" FSC's and 21" FSC's.  At the end of the day I believe you get what you pay for!  The stated capacities, cfm etc, often don't match actual performance.  A bit like comparing a 3.0 Diesel Range Rover against a 3.0 Diesel BMW!

i've got an eastern trading one that had been doing about 15 gutters a week for just over a year and its still going as strong today as it was when i bought it. so no compaints with what i've got i just fancied a bit more power in reserve whenever the need arose.

One thing for certain is you are very lucky.  I bought two of them from ETC for an emergency job where we needed 9 Vacs and they didn't last a week sucking up grinding slurry.  They are not even in the same ballpark as a Soteco 3000 watt machine and they don't match our 3000 watt machines either unless they now get them from a different supplier.

No the motors were fine although not as powerful as our Vacs!  The main problem was the quality of the hoses and general build quality.  Hoses leaked (Changed) they leaked again then they split (Changed) They split again.  The front wheels fell off then a back wheel.  You only had to look at them and dents appeared then I gave up.  They are now waste bins in our training room and I threw the motors and hoses in the skip.
