Title: Goods in exchange of services
Post by: sunshine windows on February 27, 2017, 11:13:30 am
Just wondering what the best deal is that any of you have managed to strike for this type of offer.

I currently clean a car show room, so sent a cheeky email offering my services in exchange for a new car. Would work out roughly the same in value each year, as if I were buying it new. Yet to hear back though.

Strange thread but actually I have considered something similar, mainly to a few shops/restaurants which some of the staff have openly admitted business isn't going great.
I eat out alot and the missis loves retail therapy so I was thinking of offering my services in return for credit rather then cash.
It's small money I would put back into the economy anyway.
In your case though I can't see that happening, unless you were willing to work a year in advance and receive a car, probably an ex demo, at the end of the financial year.

Same thing sunshine ...... Have the cleaning contract of some car showrooms, this one I have had over 10 years, van broke about a week before chrimbo a few years back, so I goes in and spoke with gm for the site. He says there's a few ex demos or site vans I could look at. I found the trafic van I drive today and asked can I test drive it for a month, which he agreed. During this time I checked the rrp on the van which was £8800 plus vat.
After a month the accountant rang me up and asked me what I wanted to do with the van, I says I would like to buy it and can we do a deal.
They sold me the van for £5500 plus vat, they says pay the vat up front and if I could afford it I could pay the rest each month over a year or so, til it was paid...... I suppose it boils down to the relationship u have with them

I'm sure the salesman forfeiting his commission and the vat man will be overwhelmingly in favour of it.

I always refuse this kind of deal. I've been offered website development, sports massages, sex etc. in exchange for window cleaning but I always refuse.

I used to get a massage from one of my customers for a window clean. She was a sports masseur, then we went to India cycling together when I did that sponsored bike ride about 5 years ago.

A rather overweight window cleaner used to clean the local chippy's windows for chips.

That's the truth. ;D

I used to do the windows on one of the local hookers place of work. She came to the door in her negligee and heels one day, paid and said she had to dash as she had a punter upstairs.

A while after that she'd had a sprog and brought the thing out to say hello, I swear I didn't know what to say, so asked who's it was. I think she thought I meant "D'you know who the father is?"

I got an email a while after asking us to stop going round. Thing is they started having building work done on the place, an extension. The builder was always really funny with us when we turned up, I reckon he was getting a portion on the side when no-one else was there.

How does that work, Matt? What with no-one else being there and all?

 ;)

I charge extra for that.
I do the office windows of a debt collecting agency. I do the windows and they don't pay. They then chase up the debt and usually get me half of the agreed price.
It's better than nothing and they've saved me a fortune over the years.

I clean the windows of a tailors every week. The agreement is he doesn't pay me cash but when the £10 a week bill gets up to £200 quid I can pick what I want up to a value of £300 and no change given.

I also clean the windows weekly of a falafel place, a restaurant and a cafe all of which is exchanged for food.

I like it because most times I get more than the value of the work and at least three times a week, I eat for free.  Plus on other times if I buy food, I get discount anyway and often extra thrown in for free for doing odd extras for them.

If the place has what I want, I'm all for trading services for what they sell. For me, it's a great way to do business and beats cash because both sides benefit.
