contractors registration and proof of competence
« on: March 04, 2013, 04:34:16 pm »
afternoon , was wondering if someone would mind helping me.. I dont mind if I have to give someone a call?I have been asked by a local estate agent who has been trying to sell a property my "little" business has been cleaning for holiday let changeovers and the estate agent was impressed and asked whether we would do end of let cleans which we do as and when we are lucky enough to get any. They have sent me a form where they have asked policies and practices.. do we employ sub-contractors(do they mean for example a carpet cleaner a window cleaner?)  I have three part time staff and my self .. this seems like quite a good opportunity for me but am not sure about all the "jargon. Would any body be prepared to give me some advise so I dont make a complete idiot of myself??078282103340..
Thanks in case

It sounds like they are asking if you directly employ the staff you use - ie working under your supervision which can mean on your books or self employed help. Employing a sub contractor would be just picking up the phone and getting another firm in to do the work on your behalf. I'm not allowed to sub contract on my county council jobs but that dosn't mean I can't hire a helper.
I would disclose that you would employ the services of specialist contractors when required, as you say may be oven cleaner, carpet cleaner or even pest controller for fleas etc
Be prepared to supply rams and cosh - risk assessments, method statements, care of substances hazardous to health - this is where you'll come unstuck if you buy supermarket products rather than from a cleaning supplier
