restoremate do one, taught by jamie above who knows a thing or 2 about floorcare.

Cant remember the cost but its negligable, made it back on first job.

Im even thinking about doing it again

Training courses are essential, as already stated certain things you learn or tricks you pick up are often used on a job where the cost of the course is paid for.

would you not be better to find the best course rather than a free course you will find you may need to do 3 or 4 courses to cover all aspects of floor care

Thanks for the help

Im trying to find a free course that will let me know whether I want to stump up the cash for a more detailed course

Giving it a free go allows me to decide if I like this type of cleaning and more importantly what the industry is like regarding money to be made, how good a result I will give to my clients, cost of machines and kit, competition, whether im up to it etc

Im treating it as 'taster'

I think you would be better off asking some friends and colleagues who have done hard floor courses already how they are finding things since doing their course and whose courses they have done.  We teach hard floor cleaning, sealing, minor restoration, repairs and grout colouring.  However, our course is 2 solid days with an opportunity to stay on for a free 3rd day to explore floor restoration and grinding.  It would be unfair:

1.  To all others who have either paid and done a course or who have paid a deposit and waiting to do one to offer a course to someone else for free!
2.  Running a course involves premises, instructors, materials, technicians, food and refreshments, electricity and heating!  So who pays all that if it's free?

Courses run by most schools operate on a very tight budget already with in most cases limited places!  Contrary to popular belief there is very little profit in running a course as most schools hope they will retain a % of the delegates as solid trade customers buying products.  If this were not the case fees would need to double to cover costs.

We've done 2 courses - IICRC - Keith Robertson, and Kevin Martin's course. I can't really recommend the IICRC one, but can recommend Kevin's. However, we're still thinking of doing Nu life's course to learn about their pucks / pads (ignore me, Kevin  ;) ), and if you're willing to spend £400 or so on their products, their course is "free". I wouldn't do it as a first course, though. I think a lot of people getting into hard floors feel that you really need to do more than one course, and I wouldn't worry about the cost, because you should get it back within a job or two.

kevin I would like to know what your course costs and what its content is. I did look at your website the other day when I was looking for info on the dry fusion brush (great buy that was by the way)  but there was not much info on course content, costs, or up coming dates. I am torn between a hard floor course or ltts leather course, can only afford one of them this year.

We have probably taken on too much this year!  We suspended running Hard Floor Courses because we are in the middle of moving into new premises and this involves a lot more Logistical organisation than even I imagined.  Our issue is,  our Internet sites are so successful we cannot stop trading for even 1 day so we need to trade until Friday 30th August at old premises and then be ready to dispatch the weekend sales from the new premises on Monday 2nd September.  We hope to commence Hard Floor Training Courses again in October.  The cost of the course is £395 + VAT and is two days long with an option to stay on for a free 3rd Day to experience a Klindex Training Day in grinding and restoration.

I will post the course content later today for you.

You are of course assuming that:

1.   The School Caretaker / Building Owner / Maintenance Team know what they are doing!  Many don't!!!
2.   Are they covered?  i.e.  liability insurance to do this on school premises????  Did the owners of the building know this was happening???
3.   How many schools have Marble / Travertine / Victorian Floors / Terrazzo / Quarry Tiles / Granite / Limestone / Terracotta / Porcelain / Ceramic Tiles?

Furthermore, I cannot speak for other Training Academies but our hard floor course also covers sealing , chemicals, marble & travertine Repairs, masking off, grout colouring to name but a few.

Most (NOT ALL) School Caretakers/ Building Managers I have come across can't tell the difference between Porcelain and Ceramic Tiles let alone anything complicated.

Finally and in my opinion the most important point, when you finish our course you have access to a 12 Hour a day telephone helpline should you get into problems there is always someone to talk you through it and that alone has to be worth the course fee.  Does the school caretaker offer this?????

I have been to many schools where the caretaker has not cleaned the floor and just sealed straight over, especially on quarry tiled toilet floors, where they cover them with red paint.
Had one where he was dropping his matches and fAg butts and just gone over with more paint.
Even on vynil they don't strip the edges before polishing.

i was cleaning some office carpets in a shopping centre this morning, a guy turned up to do a job cleaning floors , had a natter to him about hard floor cleaning /carpet cleaning   ., not that my knowledge of hard floors is great ,but i could tell he didnt know a thing .

My opinion................ he had not got a clue about any thing , the only thing he seemed to know about was the battery powerd mini scrubber that charged directly from his van, and this was a guy working for as far as i am aware a large cleaning company.

I can remember going to one of our school contracts to help the new caretaker with a wooden hall floor, the old caretaker had retired after 30yrs, 5 mins in i saw a lump in the floor, on my hands and knees i go, thats right, it was a flattened mars bar still in its wrapper that had been sealed over by god knows how many coats of seal,

I ASSURE YOU THIS IS NOT A WIND UP!!!!!!

i wish i'd not lost the pictures from my old phone!
