Apart from spending 3,500 on a UFO whats the best method for polishing Marble/travertine tables in the customers house? I am guessing diamond hand blocks, and KP85?

Actually as you say the best method is the Klindex UFO but in the absence of this or wanting to spend around £2700.  Then my choice would be the Klindex Supershine System mounted on either a slow speeed polisher or a variable speed angle grinder machine are extremely effective and a lot easier and a lot less messy than most methods.  Hand Diamonds will also work but it is difficult getting an even shine by hand on a larger expanse.

What about the mess/splatter looked at a table that took 3 people to deliver it. Customer does not want it moved. I bought a storma stone master variable speed angle grinder off Stonegate in Hull about 3 years ago but it still is fast enough to get a good splatter off it.

OK this is sometimes the case!  What you need to do is mask off really well around the table using plastic and masking tape.  We then try to create a barrier all around either using 4mm ply or cardboard boxes to act as a secondary screen we then work on the table using a large rubber 20" splash guard and couple all this with using the Klindex Supershine Mini system the splashing and excess water is kept to a minimum.  Alternatively I am prepared to lend you a UFO to do the job but even using the UFO and the Vac you still need to mask off and of course you would have to collect the UFO and bring it back and pay for the diamond usage.  The offer is there if you want it though.

To my knowledge The UFO is the best in the World!  There is nothing to compare it to THAT I AM AWARE OF:

I know what the UFO is, I wondered why the UFO was the best for polishing tables?

The only way you will find that out is if you try one and compare it to the current system you use!  Then you will be able to make your own mind up on which is best won't you?  By the way what system do you currently use when you polish things like 4M2 Marble / Granite Tables or Bar Counter tops for example?

Kev, I think you're misunderstanding my questions, I'm not looking to knock Klindex in anyway as they are a brand I rate highly. I'm interested in what qualities make it the best for this application.

I don't know what you want from me?  The UFO is something you need to try yourself to understand.  It is like nothing else I have used, it is a high speed planetario grinding system that has it's own water feed and vacuum take off system.  It is responsive and like a feather to operate.  The results it gives are the same as a Klindex Levighetor on a floor.  It can be operated with one finger, it can be attached to it's handle and become a floor machine.  It just goes on and on.  It is like you asking me why my BMW is better than a Seat???  I am sure there are Seat owners who would disagree with me.  It is just the best machine I have ever come across in MY EXPERIENCE!  That's it really I don't know what else there is to say or any other way to answer you!  Like all my posts it is based on Knowledge and First Hand Experience!

I am really busy over the next week but if you want to come and try the UFO you are welcome to come down next Friday on the Klindex open day after the course and have a play with one.  You can also try the Vertika and the Extrema edging machine!

I had a couple Alan, handed them both back. As I'm sure Kevin will tell you, planetary is the way forward.

When you say you handed them back....for what reason? design wise they seem to have taken a different route to planetry type machines (of which i have owned or used neither) and appear to be decent kit?

We handed them back because they caused more problems than they solved. We do a lot of concrete grinding and polishing, floors, stairs, worktops etc and every time we used the Werkmaster machines they left tracking in the surface caused by the tooling following too uniform a route (unlike a planetary). It looks like snail trails all over the stone/concrete and not desirable in any form. As soon as we moved back to planetary or counter rotating machines everything was sorted.

Plus the diamond tooling is ridiculously expensive for the apparent low quality.

Metal bonds for concrete can be £30 per segment, a set of 24 needed. Resins at around £19 again 24 - 32 required. If they were the quality we'd expect then fine, but there were not. Not a patch on what we have now for the big planetary gear.
