It was a simple question because I do not agree with the bank charges. At the end of the day, they are using my money every month, so why do they charge me extra? They should give ME money not to put my money somewhere else.

In my world these are not small charges.

Can I setup a personal account and just re-name it as my business name and pay them into that and then transfer to my business?

It is a good idea, but I think the bank will not let you name it as your business. Will ask my accountant, he might be able to come up with an idea

Go into a branch and ask to speak to a "manager".

These are a very rare breed (almost extinct nowadays) of banker whose job it is to ensure the banks customers get a good deal. If you go into a branch and are told that that particular bank doesn't have a "manager" leave and go to a different bank.

Online banking is great for day to day stuff but what do you do when things go wrong? Phone India? No thanks.

I pay charges at the bank - nothing like the amounts discussed, but enough - worth every penny as if there is a problem I speak to Mr Brodie, my "bank manager" who helps me out.

Another idea I had was getting the guy who works for me to setup an account and name it and I give all cheques to him as his wages, that way my turnover stays lower so pay less VAT and I save a small fortune on bank charges. He is self employed and has other means of income so I don't need to employ him.

That may been as sailing too close to the wind by HRMC bud.
I think they'd want to class it as your turnover.

I don't see how? If the guy working for me isn't employed by me and he's getting paid direct from the client it should be ok? He wouldn't have exactly the same business name, maybe just the first bit. It's not really any different to anyone who is a franchisee, taking their own money?

Your accountant must be crap if he hasn't given you advice about what to do with your banking. I suggest using your "wealth" to get a proper accountant.

Just a technicality on 'employed'.
I don't have employees, other than myself & the wife.
I only have subbies.
But for my insurance, the subbies are insured pretty much as employees. They have to be, legally. Even though they have to have their own PL insurance too!
