Title: Anyway to boost my outside tap pressure?
Post by: Dan The Lad on January 25, 2015, 11:13:21 am
Hi,

Got a pure freedom system in back 350L. Connected my garden hose to ports to fill up, this is my first time filling my new rig up. Issue i have is the pressure from my outside tap is crappy, so im only getting a trickle into my tank. Is there anyway i can boost the pressure of my outside tap without spending loads of money?

(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1422184369_$_39.JPG)  - cant re-scale this lol, sorry.

Thats my rig above.

Thanks in advance

Buy an IBC as a holding and pump from there into the van. That way you can get all the pressure you want and keep illegal.

Check the stop valve is fully open (under the sink normally) and the valve outside in the road/pavement.

If your tap pressure is bad, get water board to check mains pressure. They have to supply a certain pressure to road main

unfortunately they only have to supply 20psi

It takes me about the same. I thought this was normal. How long does it take everybody else to fill 350 litres?

About 45 minutes, but I'm DI only.

Why do so many use booster pumps if it's illegal?

Booster pumps are not illegal. Pretty sure I didn't buy mine from silk road!

Why do so many use booster pumps if it's illegal?

Water companies have to provide a minimum of 1bar pressure.  A booster pump won't increase the mains pressure.  But if you buy one with a small holding tank it will take the water from there and push it through your RO at a greater pressure, whilst the flow from your mains remains the same.  In simple terms...

This is not true , if you have enough flow then a pump will boost the pressure , as mine does .

Tecnically you are not supposed to increase the flow directly from the mains by more than 12 litres per min .

There is a minimum standard for flow and pressure from the mains but the standards are low .

I had southern water round to check mine and the pressure was just above minimum and flow was slightly below , they have increased the flow since and as a result my pump boosts about 10psi more than it did as it is no longer over running the supply and cavitating.

The reason you should not attach any pump directly to your mains supply is incase you contaminate it. Thats why its illegal. Use a simple one way valve...........

Then run off your tap, no holding tank neccesary.

even with the valve you are not allowed to increase the flow rate by more than 12 litres per minute .

don't think your likely to get caught though .
