Is Fairy Liquid Getting Weaker??
« on: September 10, 2005, 02:43:42 pm »
Does anyone think like me that Fairy Liquid is getting weaker.

It seem's to be less concentrated just lately, i used to put just one good sqeeze into half a bucket of water & there was sud's galore.

I now put one sqeeze of water into a bucket of fairy (it seem's)

I use the green stuff----what alternatives are there?

What do you use?

You Polemen please don't give me too much abuse  ;) ;)

Regards Ray.

It might be .......

The thing about Fairy is that they've been under constant attack from Greenpeace about all the hidden toxic chemicals that Procter and Gamble put in good old Fairy.

These companies are under constant pressure to be more 'green' and maybe without some of their secret formulers changed, their products don't work as well.

I use Ettore clean it off as I find Fairy leaves a film behind but the other 2 I work with say I'm talking rubbish.

Also I don't like the thought of all those toxic musks and silicon being absorbed through my skin which is why they always advise to wear rubber gloves.

Cheers

I use gg4, also use fairy liquid.  Saparately.
Never use Fairy with lemon or anything else added.  Just adds smears.
Bit new to GG4 but seems to add more smears than fairy so far.  Unless I'm missing something.

Use less not more and add a dash of dishwasher rinse aid. I'v been using it for months. Cuts down on suds, very usefull in windy weather, Stops blow back over the blade. Brilliant with a backflip or my new favourite the Wagtail. DAi

Dai.

What's the Wagtail like??
What do you think are the main advantages?

I'm thinking of getting one for hard to reach windows & fix to an extension pole.

What do you reckon??

All washing up liquids will leave a residue behind, the stronger the solution, the stronger the residue.
This residue isn't visible, nor can you feel it, but particles in the air will stick to it.

The specialist detergents some of us use are designed for window cleaning, if diluted properly they leave far less residue behind, ergo the windows remain cleaner for longer.
Washing up liquid (Fairy or any other make) has a different remit to window cleaning detergent, it's a far more powerful detergent and has to cope with way more grease, baked on food, starch and all the other things that fester in your sink overnight (well if you've had a skinfull you don't want to do the washing up straight away...do you?)  than you are going to find on windows.

Is it weaker now?  Personally I don't know, I use the Unger liquid, and I no longer suffer from dermatitis.....though as most of my work is now WFP, that is the most likely reason I no longer have those problems :-\

Very constructed comment's Ian!

With something as simple as liquid's it's not all plain sailing!!

Thanks for your comments.

Ray.

Alan.

That sounds a good alternative as opposed to Fairy.

Thanks for that.

Ray.

Good old fairy contains amongst other nasties - silicon.

Just to give that lovely crisp shine to your plates that then catch the light and glisten and look shiney and sparkle and .....

Trouble with silicon in that form is that is essentialy a liquid with a solid hard barrier on top of it.

Eventually it dries out and your plates no longer sparkle etc.

Before that happens though fine atmospheric dirt gets stuck to it and the silicon acts  as a glue like substance.

I think it comes down to fairy looks good at the time.

Don't I know a lot?

I don't realy, I phoned a friend who is a chemical engineer.

The best detergent are anionic (an ionic??) whatever that means. I did ask but got lost in the answer. Something to do with charged particals and no chemical sufactants or something.

Cheers

Er..... My poor brain can only absorb so much information.

As for trades names? Pass, but they are easily available. Somewhere...... I suppose if you know what to ak for.

I don't even really know what he was on about. I just repeated it because it sounded good and knowing my friend, it was true.

Cheers

Ray, I think that the Wagtail is a brilliant bit of kit. I think it would take a lot of practice to get really good with the pole though. I still prefer the backflip for pole work, for the rest Wagtail every time. I bought My Mrs a 12" Wagtail and she took to it straight away. Dai

A WC`er I know switched to Stardrops (from Fairy) recently and has been raving about it.
Easier to work with and cheaper he says. I`ve not tried it myself though.

Their hand liking lovely dishes cleaning best product in the world that is constantly being improved ...... hasn't changed for years .......

I didn't get the bit they wrote about 'constantly improved' and 'has not changed for years' bit though so I'll e mail them again and report back.

Its the only w/u liquid that dont dry my hands out .
the trade stuff just costs to much for the amount of windows i do in a day .i change my water about 5 times a day ,but that will reduce now i am using my wfp.
