Hello P@f
Lee
My Fiat Doblo multijet 90
With intermittent flashing glow plug
Amber warning light
Is cyclinder 4 glow plug according to
Diagnostics
Thanks for your advice
Mechanic told me to leave it 🤭
Might need bushes done too
Occasionally creaking when doing 3 point turn
Heard common problem
Get done together
Thanks again 👍

new code ?
Darran
-
;D

When you say creaking do you mean clunking , when you turn the wheel do you get like a gong sort of feel/ sound through the steering wheel ?
-
Oh and Lee , word of advice , if you are looking to sort the glow plugs you should get them all done if you are keeping the van , they will all start to fail now !
Also , at least a month before you want them done get yourself lots of WD40 and give them a good douse every couple of days , also try to make sure that the engine is as hot as possible prior to doing the job , tell your mechanic to leave it running in the yard before he starts , you don’t want one snapping off in his hands , that’ll be a big money job
-
Thanks for warning P&f 😀
Lee
-
P&f where are glow plugs?
I think mine might be hidden under plastic cover
Is spraying all that wd40 around, flammable 🤔
I bow to your knowledge
I’m a right numpty at most things 😀
Yeh steering sound is clunky
I think it’s to do with wish bones or bushes
I may be talking poop
-
If it’s a clunk it will more likely be the suspension top mounts , that’s what normally goes on them , bad design by Fiat , they have now redesigned them , I will get a pic of them and the glow plug situ for you !
-
Thanks very much P@f 👍
Ps. Pretty sure my van is not stop start technology
I know you can turn this option on and off I suppose in the control panel where you can turn off side lights
And alter clock etc
Reason I mention is glow plugs come in two versions
The dearer ones for start stop technology
Thanks again lee
-
I have stop start and it was all the same glow plug across the range , your reg number in eurocarparts search will tell you
Right these are the glow plugs , right under the oil filler , it should be the same on yours !

I have just checked a 12 plate Doblo against a 12 plate Fiorino for part numbers of the top strut mounts and they are the same
This is the part , they do left and right , I have picked this one with a pic to show you , cheaper one is above and you can put in a discount code shown top right
If you don’t have all the right tools don’t try either yourself mate , the suspension tops are a full shock absorber strip down after you have gotten them off the van that is !
And the glow plugs are a bitch to get at

Gone are the days when it was easy to get to just about anything in the engine bay.

Hello Spruce,
If old glow plug snaps as you mentioned P@f
Who’s responsible to put right
No I get the bill to put right?
Guessing so 😳
Was it around a £1000 😫😭
Thanks lee
-
Just got a quote from fiat dealership
Replace 4 glow plugs and glow plug relay
£658 🤯
Without glow plug relay £475
Told glow plug relay is probably ok
As detected the faulty glow plug
Cylinder 4
Is this a case of don’t want the job so
Silly price?
Said parts on europarts are £75
Got told not genuine fiat parts blah blah blah
😣😣
The price is parts labour and vat though 😳

dealerships are always triple the price of a normal backstreet garage Lee.....i always steer clear.....the only exception is my 18 plate golf GTD as its on lease for 3 years so I get it serviced at a VW dealership for £150-£200.....but apart from that i shouldnt need anything doing to it in the time ive got it for.....
if you ve got a good mobile mechanic just get him to do it mate for a fraction of the price......
-
next time your in the market for a van get yourself something decent Lee you deserve it mate after all these years!im surprised you had the ford escort van for so long!you dont see many on the road these days!those fiats look cheap and nasty and are not suited to WFP (IMO).....you need something slightly bigger with a better payload that wont put as much strain on the suspension,etc.....
-
Daz you do make me laugh !
There is nowt wrong with Lee’s van , it just needs some wear and tear bits doing , you have written it off .
It’s more than ample to be a wfp van , mine is borderline if any for payload and size !

You are.
They will quote on the assumption that it is a straight forward job. However, at the same time of quoting they should also warn you of the possibility of a glowplug breaking off which will mean additional work. Its one of those jobs that can have 2 outcomes.
That might scare the above customer away so there is always the possibility that they don't warn the customer of any problems that could arise.
In the old days it would mean removing the head and the remains removed at an engine specialist workshop.
There is now specialised tools a workshop can use that will allow the garage to do it themselves. Whether they have the skills to do it is another matter.

This is a marketing video. In reality its much more complex than this.

Unless you know for sure the glow plugs are knackered, leave well alone, as P@f says, if any snap, then it is BIG money, as the whole cylinder head needs to come off. On my old Berlingo, it was a doddle, as they were at front of the engine, easy to get at, on the current van, a mk2 Dispatch, they are hidden at the back of the engine and very difficult to get at. Been told to leave well alone.
