B @ Q Tesco`s Hiring Out WFP Systems
« on: February 02, 2011, 06:39:50 am »
What seems like a good few years ago now,I used to do the
Admin.offices of an engineering works.A couple of the lads
Came out and shouted across “ You`ll be able to hire those
In B @ Q soon.” My WFP set up that is.
Thought about it awhile now,and what Jamess 44 mentioned
Has prompted me to write in.About hiring out I mean, our systems.
Years ago,B @ Q , Tesco`s Sainsbury`s Home Base  Asda WalMart
Etc etc did`nt do anything. Now they sell strip washers, squeegees etc.
Look at us,we get our Harris poles there,I`ve got 4 of em`!
They hire out and have for awhile, the carpet cleaning `Rug Doctor`
Cleaning machines with all the `gumpp`that goes with it !

What would it take ?
What does it need ?

Just a residential kit something like Ionic`s have sold for years.
Personally I think that day will come eventually,it came with the hire
Of carpet machines.
What do members think ?
Your opinions here please.

dont think it would catch on to much hassel having to trail down to your local store and having to set up, do job and go back to time consuming for most people just to save a few bucks .any way dont plant the seed just incase ,lol ;D

Wonder if the seed has been planted? One of the main reasons I
Got myself out of carpet cleaning was the imergence of the hire
Market.Even Asian newsagents are hiring out the mini rental carpet
Cleaning machines.
It`hassttle to hire carpet machines.
People might do it to save a few bucks,it`s the very reason perhaps
That they hire carpet machines.
A `Bog Standard`set up,something even less than the Ionic`s `Residentail
Kit`.
Something to think on.
2 or 5 years from now ? ?

It would of course need a `major player`to invest perhaps millions at the outset.
Wonder if the `Dragon`s Den`people would invest or say “ I`m Out” for whatever
Reasons?

How much will it cost?

What's the average window cleaner charging £20?

You would have to do alot with a hired machine to make it worth it, vs paying just someone to do it.

I cant see the average home owner bothering to get up a ladder, clean a conservatory roof, cladding, gutters etc. Because lets be honest they are not going to hire a machine at £30 upwards when they could get someone to clean there house for £20

Besides the ones that want to do it themselves dont have window cleaners at the moment.

id think window cleaning is too cut throat in price to make that pay.  unless you have a big gaff up on a hill , but not the council houses

If they're already selling squeegees etc they will have already looked into it and thought no too much hassle and too little margin plus can u imagine the customers moaning when their windows didnt dry perfectly.

and for what it costs for average house say £10 to £12 can u see anyone hiring a system for say even £20 then having to collect it ... sort the water out ... do the work ... return machine .. way way too much hassle plus supermarkets would be forever having to fix things so as they say in dragons den ..... IM OUT  ;D

I don't think the big manufacturers of systems such as Ionics etc. would want to go down this route anyway.

Are you talking about a customer renting a machine to clean their own windows?

I doubt it.

Carpet cleaning is a far bigger job (furniture to move etc) and is only realistically going to happen once a year at the most, thereby justifying (for some) the hassle of going out and hiring the machine.

I think we are safe enough.

Been thinking about it all morning.Did`nt think it out in the first
Place possibly, just thought I`d write in after what James44 wrote.
Also there would be the initial deposit each hiring customer would
Have to leave with Tesco`s.Plus `spotting`etc etc, which even us fella`s
Cant get to grips with sometimes.
There again,40 years ago nobody could ever envisage mini carpet machines
Would `take off`.Although hot water extraction had`nt`really `got it`s feet down
Then`.
Duncan Banatyne would I think definitely  say “ for that reason I`m out”.

There are at least 4 teenagers near where I live that charge €5 for a half hour walk per dog, and take 2 or 3 dogs at the same time. They advertise the service on Facebook. Good luck to them, but all these ideas people get like these just need to be followed up.

One word: LAZY.  People are generally lazy and theres no way in my lifetime its ever gonna happen.

So this would mean Joe Bloggs and his Mrs are going to B&Q (There are other DIY firms) and hire some pure water or filters whatever, and all the kit that goes with it, clean their windows, then take it back to B&Q.

Its never gonna happen, they may as well hire one all year round, then hire it again for the following year.

People are generally lazy and hate cleaning the insides never mind the outsides.

I am prepared to eat my hat. ;)

From an investors point of view and a supplier to the supermarkets,
The main stumbling block would be the tooling up for a DIY system
Suitable for that market which is unproven.
I don`t think I myself personally would go as far as to say, “ it`s never
Going to happen”.
Just look at the earlier posts,( excluding dog walking ! ) Don`t know
How that got in there !
