I'm a part time windy and I may have the chance of voluntary redundancy for which I would get around 4.5k.
I take home around £500 per week in my current job.
Over the last 12 months I've cut back a fair bit on the windows so I only have around £500 per month left.
Would you bite the bullet and go windows full time or stay as I am?
I'm all kitted out with van mount etc so very little investment is needed other than uniforms etc.
Also I'm in South Yorkshire so I'm not going to be canvassing 3 bed semis at £12 a pop.
Thanks in advance, any advice would be greatly appreciated ;D ;D

I would stay at the £500 a week job.
Its getting harder and harder to get good work.
Paul
-
i would say stay as you are - if it was me ( and it was 4 yrs ago - but only had £2k to play with )
i jumped at the chance with full backing from those that matter - partner and family
you sound like your not really ready to take the plunge into self employment
is it £500 take home or before tax ????
-
You take home £500 in south yorkshire :o what job do you do must be bank robbing ;D
-
stay where you are
-
Thanks for the advice so far ;D
£500 is after tax.
No I'm not bank robbing I'm a maintenance engineer ;D
-

Where abouts do you work?
-
Why did you cut back and how much has gone by the wayside. When you had the most work how much was that??
You have a good income but it is capped and there are many many on here who will take home a lot more than that.
Your wage will give you a reasonable life but why limit yourself?
Rob ;D

I sold some work that was a fair distance from home to free up some spare time so my wife could devote more time to her business.

Do you enjoy the window cleaning?
Rob ;D

How old are you?
-
I grew up in Bolton on Dearne so I know the area.
From being in a similar position to you, though there was no redundancy, I have been emailed today reference a substantial project. Quite possibly the biggest job I have ever seen. No one else will be pricing it and I am being asked what it will take and how long, next week.
I would see your circumstances as an opportunity to develop my business.
It is all down to perspective and outlook!

Yes I do enjoy the window cleaning.
I see it as an opportunity to develop something of my own.
To think for myself if you like.
My current employment although decent money, is a sea of negativity ;D
The last time I took redundancy I took my wife and I off around the world for a year we ended up in Australia and stayed there for 4 years.
In that time I went from labouring for a landscape gardener (great job doing gardens on Sydney harbour in the sunshine) to working in facilities being national tenancy coordinator covering around 50 shopping centres nationwide.
The Australians are a very positive lot who believe you can achieve, which is something I brought home with me ;D
I think this could work but as with any new project due diligence is required hence the need for advice :D

Do you want any help with that new job ;)

£500 a week take home plus £500 w/c. That's pretty comfy I guess.
Current job - Pension? Paid Holiday? Hours per week?
If their offering voluntary redundancy why not ask if you can go part time plus call out. Say 3 day week plus call outs?

Each to their own, I started windows when I was earning less and continued in order to subsidise my wife's wages when she decided to pack in work to look after our little lad as well as starting her own business ;D

sounds to me like youve got plenty of initiative and get up and go but looking for a better work-life balance.
also sounds like the longer your in that job possibly the more your going to resent it.
but im sure most would agree that any business right now is a consistent grind to keep things moving along and the work coming in. you have multiple jobs as a sole trader and it can get tiring having to keep an eye on all areas of your business.
that said i feel more comfortable in control of future then having it run in the hands of others. and many customers means risk is spread .. and quite easy with some graft to replace customers who have moved away or dies etc.
one things for sure. fortune favors the brave and often when you commit to something ..you find the harder you work the luckier you get. :)

What do you want to do mate?..
To make similar money on the windows ;D
just do it ... It won't happen overnight tho that return
You know what your annual salary is now which after tax etc leave you with your 500 per week take home ...
There's making 500 a week and taking home 500 a week after running Cost etc ....The 2 are very different
Take your money set your self a plan and some targets cos doing it adhoc without focus or vision will result in failure ...
-
