I need to submit this quote tonight.

i can work out how long it will take to sandblast, just not too sure about cleaning up and volume of sand.

Its the volume of sand i need to find out really.
Does anyone do it?

If your going to use a jetwash then 1-2 bags and it will get everywhere. You would be best to tarp up to restrict the spray. Soda is better because it dissolves

Thanks for the reply...

What does it mean to tarp up? Can soda be used the same as sand or do i need a different machine?

presume tarp(aulin) type barrier thing?

I think you can use soda with a pressure washer as long as its small diameter and with the right kit, (only offered cos i see your under pressure on this, I am not sure but  seem to remember something from a good while ago, dont bank on it.)

steve.

edit, not done it so dont know how much you need but i suspect you will go through it quite quickly.

just thought that it might not be soda blasting that can be done with a pressure washer, but you can get little plastic beads to blast, i might be getting muddled up, soz

If your removing paint with your pressure washer then you'll have the paint to clear up so you may as well use sand.

yeah, thats what i thought. If i put some "tarp" at the base of the wall, i guess it will catch the majority of the sand and paint, eh.
I need to put a price in for the amount of sand i will be using too though.

How many bags of sand do you think i will need?

don't mean to sound impatient, but i need to work this out tonight. Any idea How much sand im likely to go through?

Would 2 bags per hour be realistic?

I've had someone with me that has sand blasted before, he thinks it will take 8 days sand blasting working at 7 hours per day.

So if I get an hourly amount i can work out a total.

Thats a big job ! With the sand blasting kit on your pressure washer you will not use any more than 2 bags an hour but more like 1. I only use about 4 bags of soda  with my soda blaster on a 2 tool compressor but kiln dried is £3 and soda is £18. Check but I don't think that kiln dried sand is really allowed as a blasting media - maybe ok in water but not in air

really, ok cool, thanks mate!

So 8 days @7 hours per day = 56 hours

So that's 56 hours @ (lets say 1.5 bags to make sure)  = 84 bags

84 bags @ £3 each = £252

How does that sound to you?

I'd budget 3 pallets to be sure but I'd be dubious about the area covered wet compared to conventional air blasting. I'd have got a quote from a sand blasting firm to give an idea of the ball park figure and even subbed it to them

Pallet is usually a tonne or 40 bags - look at centurywise for blasting gear

Kiln dried so long as you've not got a safety officer on your shoulder, if not a blasting media. The centurywise web site is good for tips

how do you suck the sand into your pressure washer? does it not clog up the pump?
