CRB checks
« on: March 18, 2013, 02:10:15 pm »
I've looked at a few sites that say the staff have been CRB checked.

I thought they were only for people who work in schools or healthcare premises.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

No, people who own banks don't really want reformed armed robbers on their staff  ;D

They're called DBS checks now - be interesting to see whether the sites you've seen amend their wording.

Some clients want them, more so in the public sector, but I've rarely been asked for them and my opinion is that putting criminal checks up as a selling point isn't the best marketing tip in the world. I believe the enhanced disclosure is required for children and vulnerable adults and that people can apply for their own disclosure now.

You can get a basic disclosure carried out for any member of staff doing any job. All it will tell you is whether that person has any unspent convictions. If they've committed a crime and done the sentence, it won't give you any details about that.

An Enhanced CRB tells you everything - spent and unspent- but this can only be done for staff working in a job which involves working with children and vulnerable adults.
