Where can I go to learn to remove....
« on: September 18, 2005, 07:28:30 pm »
Hi All,

Have been doing a bit of research into Graffiti & Gum removal recently and I think this is a service I wish to add to my drive cleaning business. Is there somewhere I can go to learn how to do it correctly, using the right chemicals for the surfaces I intend to clean. Dont really wish to just go out there and bluff my way as I would prefer to know what I'm doing and at least appear professional ;D.

I would also consider working a few days for free with someone learning on the job if any of you are prepared to teach me. Based in London will travel upto 50 miles.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

A wise choice, as it is very important to learn what chemical to use on what surface. If you use the wrong detergent on certain bricks or cement work, you will be looking at a big claim for damages against you.

I am not sure, but I think BICS might run a course on that, if not, do a search on the web. I have read a few UK suppliers who specialise in the equipment and chemicals and who also run courses as part of the package.

Good luck in your venture and I hope you find the info you need.

Hi Andrew,

I'll do that. Have found one company locally that supply all the graffiti removing chemicals that I need, but unfortunatly dont offer a "hands-on" course that I can learn all about the different surfaces. I'll keep searching.

Thanks

Paul

Have you thought how much you will charge.

I like you want to learn about this.

Thought I might offer my service Free while learning but was concerned about Insurance.

I'll be honest I haven't got to that bit yet in any detail but I'm sure there must be a standard charge for individual "tags" whilst larger amounts charge by the square metre. Depending how much time and product you use I assume you charge accordingly.

Any info re prices and or courses I find I'll be happy to share with you.

Paul

PS what is it that you do now?

I clean Carpets, but I am also a local Councillor and hate Graffti and Chewing Gum on pavements.

Recently an attempt was made to remove somr Graffitti in my Ward by a cleaning company but i am not happy with results.

Hence I have been trying to find out best method. And had considered having a go myself for free as it would have been unethical to complain about Graffti and then profit from its removal.

However I want a satisfaction Guarantee on Chemicals

I do not have the power or influence in  awarding  contracts to anybody else who might be intrested.

Thanks guys for your imput. I had an Idea today driving past this run-down estate today. It was full of graffiti alongside a wall belonging to a Tile warehouse. I was thinking of approaching them cleaning their wall for a fraction of the price just to get some practise using the techniques posted on this site and other chemical companies websites such as centurywise.

I'm sure in the early days if I describe the surface and the type of ink or paint used on the graffiti they will give me the correct chemical and even if its not a perfect job, I will assume the companies concerned will still be happy as its been removed for a relatively cheap price.

What do you think?

I suppose.
But remember, when cleaning up graffiti you will have to clean the whole half of the wall.
Otherwise you will be left with a big clean patch, that will look unsightly, you must remember this when quoting for a job.
I usually work from edge to edge.
But only use chemical on the graffiti.

Thanks mate

any advice at this stage is very welcome. After reading the advice posted on the site you recommended and other sites it doesn't appear to be beyond me. I hope to be doing some trials soon.

Paul,

Think i have found what your looking for!

If you go to www.tensid.com and then click on `about us` and then click on `technical advice & training`(right hand side of page) you will find info on what you need.

The graffiti course lasts a day and you get a reference manual to take away with you. but im not sure how much it costs to go on the course.

good luck

To Keith,

thats brilliant just registered my interest with them it didn't mention any prices but hope to find out soon. I've been searching for days and have not found them at all on any searches but the fact they're pretty local is a big bonus.

Cheers

Paul
