To Ply line or not to Ply line

Do you think I should ply line my new vans or not ?

Is it worth protecting the the panels and leaving the floor ?

What would you do

The sides of mine have been plyed Dave and the floor speedlined,i just tried to minimalise panel damage to aid the aesthetics and resale value. So far,no dents from the inside out but plenty from the outside in! :)

Hi Dave,
If you do make sure that the ply is of good quality as the 2mm offers as much protection as wallpaper!

Dont dave, Do the sides but not the floor. I had a plylined van and i dont care how well you seal it, the water gets though sitting between the floor and wood.

You shouldda seen it when i puled mine up and this was before i had a water system in it.

hi dave how did your 10,000 window job go :-)

my van already had ply lining in it.
looks like they removed the wall ply and painted a few inches up the sides,  then put the ply back on.
They removed the floor ply altogether..
they ply on the walls is definatly worth having , it stops water getting inside the pannels altogether

Good thing about lining sides is you can then fix things to it, hooks for pole carriers, pump boxs etc. My van is now 8 years old, has no protektacote only ply, which I replaced last year & the floor undernieth is still like new, no rust etc. It does very often get wet too, with trad bucket, hose reel etc.

I have now cancelled the ply lining for monday.

Shoreshine I am interested in where you got the rubber from.

the point of the ply lining is just to stop dents from the inside out, and even the smallest dent outwards looks massive on a panel van

dave, you can buy the ply cut in kits, then get 1 of your lads to screw it in the van, its a 3 hour jobs at max, just give him the cut ply and a cordless screw driver with a box of selftapper screws

   i have just the sides ply lined but would also recomend putting heating insulation behind the ply lining it helps in winter to stop things freezing, a couple of times i have forgot to put the heater in and got away with it, as also said it is handy to hang hooks etc from too.

The garage was going to charge me £250 per van.

My T4 engine has just blown up so it looks like i am not going to get the £1500 trade in for that one

I got the rubber flooring from MacSalvors in Pool cost me £40 ( the building on the right upper floor) laid it down in two halfs then seal the join got some aluminium stripping cut to length for the rear and side doors.
