Early stages.
Im aware that the brush head will drip on to my flow controller, I shall be sorting that tomorrow ;)

It looks really good BUT I would have mounted the flow controller on the other side, as I believe where you have mounted is where all the electronics are for the alarm and fuel pump. If you keep the controller in that position in will cause many issues and maybe even an explosion. Of course i am lying and winding you up. But i bet i had you for a moment.

How are you fixing the water tank in place James?

Andy - For time being I am rachet strapping 250 ltr tank down, only for a month or so untill my frame is built

I thought so, just looking at your photos and I can't see how you will get the straps into the van floor D Rings because of the plywood the tank will be sitting on.
You could drill 4 large holes 2" diameter or so using a hole saw near each corner of the plywood to feed the straps through I suppose.
Might just be the angle the photo is at though if you have already thought of something?

The 4 D rings that I need to use, can actually be accessed as there is a gap either side, all I will need to do is maybe put some sponge inbertween the strap and wood so that it doesnt rub. Get me? ;)

I was just thinking that it's best to have the tension directly between tank and D-ring rather than the edge of the plywood bending the angle.

Perhaps I will be better off doing what you have suggested. I will see tomorrow and make a decision, thanks for the imput.

Do you have a wood fetish? Why not plonk the tank on the floor like 99.99% of everyone else?
Get the centre of gravity as low as you can then use the wood to make some cross beams up in the roof for the light stuff. ???

Love wood bud.
Wanted the step ladders under stored away, to save getting pointer off the roof. And didnt want them getting in the way of the WFP system....

No it's arse backwards. Put the ladders up inside the roof - they are the lightest things you've got besides the poles.
All that plywood - doubled up is extra weight plus the bulkhead and you are already eating into your payload. You could sling the lot. (not the bulkhead ::)roll)

The hose reels are bolted down.

Bolt them through the metal floor - get them lower and sling the wood floor out.

Hi James, Dave is spot on . When you get your frame fitted , this needs to be bolted into the floor of the vehicle and not on your wooden framework. Ed

When my tank is framed, I will look into doing away with the wood ;D

Hi James, just changing the subject a little. I am renewing my insurance for my vans at the moment and talking to the insurance companies, they was informing me , anyone with a tank strapped in the back will be deemed as a modification to the vehicle. Obviously needs to be declared to validate your insurance ! Ed

Thanks Ed. Yes already done that, although surely you need to inform them when its bolted to chassis aswell?

Yes mate, misconception for some windies is because the tank is not bolted in then you dont have to notify the insurance co. ie to save money on premium. Only when it is bolted in then becomes a modification.

Well guys, ive took on board what you said, and completly understand what your saying, but, having the steps up high and binning the wood wouldnt work...
Reasons why:
1: The idea in having steps and pole on the left hand side is so that I only have to open 1 door upon arrivel at job.
2: If the steps were high, on the left hand side, I couldnt get quick access to the pole.
3: Moving the pole isnt an option as I do not what to start putting holes in the bulkhead.
4: When opening the door, the steps would be right in your face, and quite frankly would look s**t.
6: The second floor I built is also protecting the original plywood, which will be better for when I sell van in a few years.
5: I prefere having the storage low as opposed to high.
So, the wood is staying put. Im happy with it, its how I picture my van, and want it to look like.
Part 2 to follow later today, so you lot can get stuck into that one aswell ;)

James, do what you want. I was just pointing out the obvious (to me anyway). Keeping weight as low as possible and freeing up as much payload as possible.

And SWFC - the reason i want the steps in the back is so that I DONT have to take the clamps off every time just to get a set of steps out. Plus my ladder and pointer is on the roof bars

James, at the end of the day as long as your happy with the end result that is all that matters but constructive criticism is a good thing, if it is directed in a positive way. I will listen to anyone if i can gain from their experience ! Ed
