-
This is where I get mine:
http://www.rhtltd.co.uk/products.php
Beware of inferior products: those on E-bay "rated at 10 tons" are only 50mm wide webbing.
Robert Harwood's 5 ton straps are wider than that :o
-
just use a couple of bungees ;D ;D ;D ::) ::) ::)
-
gooutdoors.co.uk do them,
in the carvaning section
-
I have noticed that even the 10 ton ones are all reduced to 5 ton with hook on the end,its just the strap thats 10 ton ???
-
Ian,I can't see any over 5 ton on that website?

Why dont you get a tank frame made ?
-
I got a frame with the tank, but securing it looked difficult and I preferred the option of removing tank easily

That's right, but the overall rating is 5ton. These are true ratings, lots of others are just the hooks, or webbing, as mentioned above.
Two straps at 5 ton rating will give you all the safety margin you need. These straps will rip the chassis up through your van before they break. A genuine 10ton strap is so bulky you wouldn't be able to get it round your tank ;D ;D

when Nat did his sums, he was accounting for just 1 strap
just use 3 ( or 4 ) X 5 T straps
1 strap from left to right on the FRONT
1 strap from left to right on the REAR
1 strap from front left to rear right
1 strap from front right to rear left
the last 2 in a X shape, you can run it through the tank baffel, then you will have no movement
you have 4 X 5 Tonne straps
-
ok thanks ian,i will order from there then i think

if only all people did they , the straps would be safer, some of the pics that have been on here are very shocking.
Just hope your not hooking to the little eye bolts in the back of van as that would be madness there held in by about 4mm sheet metal....
-
no i have a bracket around chassis, can't do sideways ones as brackets not in right place, will have to do back to front x2 and crossways x2

if you buy your straps from a reputable company such as spanset
which are a load and restraint company 5ton straps are fine they have
a proof rating of 6:1 and all fittings such as claw hooks or delta links
are rated at 2:1 so you are more than covered.
i wouldnt touch any of them off ebay as you dont know if genuine
article what they have been tested to.a genuine lifting and load
company will always give you a test certificate if have safe working load
marked on labels or a m.b.l. cert if marked with minimum break.
i worked for a lifting gear and load company for seventeen years
take it from me there are loads of substandard products out there
so dont take your life in your hands with second hand or inferior
gear
