I think the only way to find out which is best is to ask cleaners who have both TM's and portables

Depends on what you call a superior clean?

If you look at the full picture ie, the cleaning I would be that a porti would do the same, but if you look at quicker drying and faster cleaning as part of the big picture I would say yes.

TM easily cleans better than a portable, it has more power, so why people have voted the same is beyond me.

Remember when we use portables with 70 psi pumps and single vacs, now its 135+ and twin vacs these portables clean better, so surely TM will clean better as they have more power?

But then I suppoe that depends on what is a superior clean. I assume more dirt removed and dryer carpet. TM wins

In my opinion, the only people who are qualified to answer this question are those who have owned both types of machine so I cant answer as I have never used TM. I suspect that anyone who owns a TM will say TM and anyone who owns Porty only will say porty.
Is there anybody out there who can say the opposite?

I owe both and use both regularly. If its large job, I use TM, small job (1 small room) use porty. Upholstery use porty etc.
Some jobs are better suited for TM and vice versa. There is  a market for both types
