POINTERS LOOK SCARY
« on: September 22, 2006, 04:39:51 pm »
Hi,
been looking at pointer double ladders , (mainly so i can split in half and use pointer for out of reach downstairs windows).

but, god they look so unsafe to me for upstairs windows,

that tiny little point at the top, they look like they will roll over when i slightly stretch lol,

forgive me but you know im new lol. ;)

gary.

I have a small set of pointers and set up right they are more safer, due to the wider bottom than Ordinary ladders.

I think they are a lot safer than open top ladders.
Never had mine twist.
And you can wedge to point in the corner of the window.

Hey
as paul said you can put them in the corner of a window or higher up between a frame.
You will find that the alluminium ladders are more splayed at the feet than the wooden ones.
I have put some nice big articulated feet on mine.
I also do a weekly ladder inspection which is recorded on a ladder inspection form.
Only takes a minute to do and could save my life.
My advise would be if you are getting pointers to go slightly larger than open tops.

I could be wrong, but what put me off a set of pointers was the shape of the rungs.  The ones I saw for sale were round, rather than the standard 'D' shape.

They looked as if they would hurt your feet if you were stood on them for any length of time.

Of course, sturdy boots might help, but I do like to feel where my feet are on the rungs.

Can you get D shaped rungs with pointers?

You get used to them.

My open top ladders have D rungs my A frames have round ones.

I though exactly the same when i first got a A frame.
But you really don't notice it whilst you are working.

Hey
the round rungs on my pointers seem to be deeper in grooves than my normal ladders.
This gives alot more grip.
