I agree.

But not everyone these days are "proper men" in this regard. Its died out, Im old school and was brought up watching my dad do every d.I.y task imaginable from concreting to building a house extension etc you name it he did it himself.  Personally there's not much  I won't attempt to d.I.y, none of its rocket science just takes common sense and a bit of nouse.

There are so called "men" these days that can't even put up a shelf, it must be embarrassing for their partners when they tell there friends my husband had to call someone in to fix that broken fence panel etc.

But that's the way society is, women taking more powerful positions and men becoming more feminine.

It used to be women cooked and cleaned and men fixed things and we're manly, these days the boundary have crossed over.

Nowadays you have big a big Jesse who can't bolt a tank it

Lol no offence but it's kinda true  ;D

Yeah, just get the mrs to do it.

my first tank(350l) i fitted myself with 5 ton ratchets straps,

my second tank(500L) and frame I got my garage to bolt it through the floor with spreader plates.they had to remover diesel tank and exhaust.they charged me £100.

my current 500L tank and frame was also fitted by my local garage.fitted to the eyelets with angle iron(not through the floor)they charged me £80.

id rather my garage do it than me faffing about.their bodywork specialists and its an easy job for them.plus their cheap as chips! :) :)
price higher/work harder!

For the record I have drilled 12mm holes and bolted a tank in through the van chassis previously, with no dramas.
But if it came to having to drop the exhaust and the fuel tank I wouldn't bother doing it myself.
I don't need the aggro and I would rather find a garage to do it for me.
So I'm with you on that one.

Let us all know when it's sorted as should be an easy cheap job if/when you find the right local firm to fit it.

Been to a body repair shop today and the guy is on about it could be a days work to move the fuel tank and exhaust, then weld in some spreader plates. £300 sounds expensive to me but it sounds like he knows about this kinda stuff.

I also went to a steel fabricators and they said they have done this kind of work for people with jetwash/valeting set-ups, lm going back there tomorrow for a quote.

I want the job done properly by someone who understands how to do it so its safe, without causing any damage to the van.

I wouldnt want the likes of adam thompson doing it, in fact if he even turned up at my house to just clean the windows l would tell him go and clean himself up first!

I'm pretty handy at most things but I wouldn't even attempt this....it needs doing properly for safety sake....there's a difference between putting a set of shelves on a wall and bolting down nearly 700kg  of moving weight correcly.....plus you have the get out of jail card if something does happen.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

Strongly agree!

Im an nvq  qualified plumber and an electrical engineer of 6 years, and i have put up more shelves than adams had showers!

I'll have  a go at most things but not where safety comes into play, not if l dont know enough.

Me and wife work together, if we get squashed at work then whos gonna bring the kids up?

Its not about being manly, more about being intelligent!

why dont you just man up and do it yourself?

can you not operate a drill?  do you know how to use a spanner?

my 4 old son can operate a drill and use a spanner! Does that mean he could safely install something that weighs around 700k when full into a vehicle?  Exercising caution doesnt make me any less of a man you..........

Why dont you iust grow up?

What a daft thing to say....

all a garage or anyone else is going to do is drill holes and put some bolts in with thick washers, at least m8 or even m10 size

and you cant do that because?

I am grown up in fact, so grown up that I can drill holes and insert a bolt, then tighten it up after.

Do everything yourself hey adam?

Thats why your paying someone else thousands to do your canvassing for you cos your scared to knock a door!

Then again if l looked like you l would probably never go outside.

I get that you dont want to do it yourself, fair play; no big deal

But those talking of safety, how much more safe do you think a local garage are going to make it..?

Fuel tanks etc...aside, they're going to drill the same size holes as you would, use the same sized bolts and same size spreader plates (you'll probably have to provide said items...) so unless they have some re-enforced pixie dust they can throw on for good measure, again...how much safer do you think they'll make bolting a cage into the floor..?

I'm not knocking OP for wanting someone else to do it for him,( I wouldn't have a job if everyone wanted to do everything themselves...) but unless you are having a crash tested system professionally fitted (and I'm sceptic on those) then the safety arguement is balls

My mobile mechanic fitted mine, took half an hour with the van jacked up. £30 in his back pocket. Happy days.

My mechanic did mine ... I think it was about £70. But if it was more , I would of paid it. I can't do much when it comes to diy wfp stuff so I find it easier, quicker and less stressful when someone else does it.
I'd ring round as many garages as possible and see what they all say
