I often hear about the cost to industry due to trains and planes not working. I was curious to know how much we are losing this week due to the freeze.

I have only done a few small jobs this week, and none with wfp as it is still frozen solid.

Some of my stuff can be done late, but the weekly stuff will be lost revenue, for me that is around £200 lost.

i dont really look as a loss i just think oh well ill catch up one day i have a loyal customer base who have stuck by me for years i had 6 months off in 2007 with pneumonia and they still all stuck with me went back and they hadnt got anyone else ...... i know its hard financially to lots of people even me when you cant work but hey what can you do we cant change the weather this week all we can do is say oh well hope its better than next week .......and id still rather be here thinking oh i cant go to work because its too cold than being a soldier in afghan or iraq ....as long as you have heating and some food and water .....pay the electric,water and gas the rest can wait a couple of days we are  all in the same boat i know lots of different people with different jobs who also havent worked and wont get paid so were all in it together chin up the winters only started yesterday 1st dec we still got till beg of march to go yet least theres only me to pay it must be awfull for small shops etc who employ and are not making ....... and it feels worse because this months xmas

im still hopeing i havnt lost anything yet, even tho iv only done 1 full days work in total,but my work is based on 4 days a week so 2 days to spare each week until xmas,just depends on weather now,i will be working in the rain tho more than normal

im quite lucky do 99% of my work 8 weekly and was constantly behind with loadsa messers delaying me so decided to dump shed load of wasters and bad payers so we flew round all my work last 7 weeks got to week 8 (this week) and didnt have much pencilled in so quite lucky in that respect that i wasnt expecting a big earning week anyway but the boredom is killing me now been out leaflet droppin new areas near where i do as i find these customers better than canvassed generally.

Not a problem. One bad week won't hurt.

Some big hits then, over £10,000 already. I am glad that I am not paying out for wages.

I would guess that the over all loss to this industry will run into hundreds of k before the thaw.

One good thing is that there will be plenty to get on with in the run up to crimbo.

10 hours of late starts this week due to steep icy roads in rural countryside. Better to start late then have a prang in the van as water running off the fields onto roads along the hedges on untreated roads where I had to be this week and hills up to 1 in 5. Not greedy so happy to earn enough to cover bills plus a bit of saving for rainy day
