£20 to get a bit of cement off one window?
Yes he should of offered something, but come on!  Did you have a pair of tights stretched over your head?;D
If you read my post it says that new windows were added ie loft conversion. So thats 3 extra windows 3rd story and 9 months of builders crap, dust etc covering windows etc. So as I explained to custie it was just like a first clean again with 3 extra windows. So to ask for £20 extra was a fair price imo.

Sigh!  ;) Ok here we go ...

dump or keep?
i'd always recommend keeping customers. Maybe you should learn to price correctly. Dumping customers is for amateurs who can't work things out.

It's a very simplistic solution you have offered to the OP - also a bit rude. I would generally "keep" customers but not "always" - I agree he should have priced it beforehand - dumping customers is occasionally the best thing to do for you and your business.

Gazzasp8's post is the more eloquent and less offensive version of my "rolls eyes".
Yeah i liked it too. He never dumped them, he decided to get the builders to clean off their junk. Did he? Where does he say that?

The OP's post concerns getting the price wrong by some 30% and then asking if he should dump them. I'm wierd like that, i never dump anyone who wants their windows cleaning and wants to pay. Mind you, if i was consistently getting my pricing wrong by 33%, maybe i'd advocate dumping them too. Personally i'd ask for more before i commenced. Its enough to make you roll your eyes though. OUt of interest though, if you got your pricing so badly wrong, what would you do?.......
A) do the job and them dump them.
B) re price it correctly before commencing.
C) accept you got the price wrong and just do what you agreed.

D) Accept that I should have looked at the job beforehand and if I had neglected to do so and found the job much more work than anticipated then I would have downed tools and spoken to the owner before continuing. Had the customer not liked what I had suggested and told me that another wc had canvassed and that he would only pay the original amount (implying that he could drop me and use him) then I would dump him on the spot and walk away.

Or maybe i got it all wrong and you'd just dump them cos you got it wrong and get some more new higher paying customers?

Yes you got it wrong; but only partially. I get it wrong sometimes too and I will give myself a stern talking to later on.

Its all very complicated isn't it, and i'm looking to you lads for tips on how to move foreward in my buisness. So, what gives? Kidda ?!!!

It's the way you tell'em that gets the message across.
It's a game of three halves!

Right, try me then. He's priced it wrong, the customer does not want to pay the revised price after he's done the job? he dumps them, whats the lesson learned ?
I'm not sure why you'd want to girl thingy foot around these questions, they're plainly daft questions. By trying not offend the OP, or be unecessarily blunt with him how else do you tell him its his mistake and to ask should he dump someone who's paid him what he priced and agreed is a daft question? I'm typing what i'd say, you can look at ways to tell'em !!!!

I think the OP went back after a year and started doing the job with extra windows and what amounted to a builders clean. As I grasp it the price before all the building work was £40.

So OP turns up and starts and as you say he should have negotiated a first clean price and a new follow-on clean price. He didn't because it was "obvious" to him that the custy would realise that a £40 regular job isn't the same as a builders clean with more windows.

So it appears that both the custy and the OP both "assumed" what the price would be. The custy thinking the £40 would still cover it and the OP thinking it should be more. Would you let a windy start on your windows after a gap of more than a year without checking the price? (Unless you thought that you'd take advantage of the OP which is evidenced to me in the OP's case by the comment about "I've only got £40" and "another wc has been round canvassing".)

It is that latter point which shows me that the "clever" householder is trying to get one over on the OP. If that was the case I wouldn't want him as a customer.

And I don't think your questions are daft, either.

It's a game of three halves!
