It is true that some of the books are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I'm tempted by the best selling: "The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**K" by Mark Manson

One of my friends has a collection of books with amusing titles, and unlikely Title/Author combinations: I'm going to stay at his place on a cycling trip soon and I'm looking forward to browsing his bookshelves eg.

‘Are You Dancing?’ by R. U. Asking

‘Art and Culture’ by Phyllis Stein

‘Artificial Weightlessness’ by Andy Gravity

‘Back Problems’ by Eileen Bent

Well, starting to stray off topic.

Often think about writing a book about window cleaning that would only be of interest to hardcore window cleaning geeks.

Plenty of options here, eg: "Your Panes are My Pleasure", "Through the Glass Darkly", "Clearing the Mist from the Glass" etc, etc.

As a retirement project one day, I'd like to write a book about vintage windows. Some of the windows we clean are breathtaking in their beauty; and the craftsmanship you see in their construction is sublime - and they won't be around forever.

James, well done for getting 30 customers.

That is the hardest part of any business, getting new customers.

If you can get 30 customer, you've got what it takes to get 300, so keep trucking and PM me or get in touch by email / text- would be great to hear from you.

Thank you mate I did send you a PM/Email on here.
I am working from car with CLX gardiner pole and backpack.
When I get to 100 customers I plan on buying a van which will make the work easier and look more professional.

Dave,

The lines on your post about Stella and your missus walking 'down the aisle' made me smile :-))

I went to see the Elton John film ("Rocketman") last week with my wife.

Elton always had a fairly tense relationship with the tabloids; particularly "The Sun", and when he married David Furnish The Sun Headline that day was:

"Elton Takes David Up The Aisle" :-)

I door knock until 2045 in the summer months - you can't do that in the winter.

Don't intend to be working at weekends forever tho'....

Do you guys on the forum think it’s wise to buy some leads as a newbie or best to just keep canvassing and get work myself (which I would do anyway)
What would you do in my situation.

Just do whatever works for you.  Give each method a trial. If one way is not for you just stop and concentrate on your prefered methods.

do what is right for you - some have brought work and been a total success - others found it a little hard going esp. if the round was trad and converting to wfp.

personally I'd hate to part with 4,5 or more times the value of the round - meaning I'm cleaning them effectively for free for the next year - I would possibly consider a canvasser if you need to build numbers quickly - at least the money is yours on the 3rd clean and they usually replace drop outs (if cancel on clean 2)

It depends on how you value time. If you have plenty of time, walk around asking people if they’d like a quote for window cleaning.
When I started a couple of years ago I had a target of 3 a day.
Good luck!
