when cleaning mild steel floors its very important not to use cleaning chemicals that are caustic or corrosive in other words don't use high alkaline products based on sodium metasilicate  or sodium hydroxide as these harsh chemicals are highly corrosive and will cause damage to any  steel surfaces,  its best  to use a micelles based cleaning solution as these safe cleaners contain rust inhibitors  and  if used in combination with melamine mop or floor scrubbing pads will clean heavily ingrained soils from mild steel surfaces with ease.
