I did one job today at my own speed (now very slow) took just over 4 hours carpet only and charged £250.00 customer was very happy, my 4th clean for them this year.

When I first started 6 years ago I subed to a Splash and Dash, one Saturday I cleaned for him 5 suites, 3 H/S/L and 2 lounges he paid me £70.00 I used my own machine and chemicals and tavalled over 80 miles in the day at my own expence, FOOL ME!!  I know which way is the easist and more profitable.

u put chems and steam on to the carpet suck it back up and hey presto u only gone and cleaned it !!! and madam gos wow looks great heres u £30 pounds 6 months later she phones u up again and says please come do my carpets again as u made such a good job last time and it only cost £30 pounds o and can u do my freinds as well as she had a bloke round doing this test and that test blah blah waffle waffle waffle "i can do it for £150 pounds"  she only wanted it cleaned !! not pampered !!    lmfco again !!

All i was saying is that by charging these amounts you have to do 5-6 jobs a day to make it pay, I do 2 and am normally finnished by 3pm. What about set-up time, pre-spray and vacuum is this all included for the £30 or does this not happen.

I know that cleaning is not that hard but its the service you should be offering, I charge higher prices but what they get for this is, 5 Free re-visits to remove stains that they cant  be removed, Free re-fills of Stain Remover plus the knowledge that I am available for all there carpet concerns.

So stain removel is easy is it? Try getting Tizzer out of a wool carpet. You wont do that for £30.

We can all make money what ever way we do it but for me it is far more rewarding in offering a returant service not a Macdonalds take-away if you get my meaning. We do this to have a nice life, not that we will be worn out by the time we are 50.

Hi Guys,

Whatever any of us do there will always be a range of prices from ridiculously low to extortinate.

For me it boils down to,  do I want to earn £30 an hour or £60?

Also as John said earlier on you are not really running a business at the low end prices ,more like doing a low paid job.

I think you missed the point,

example

1 guy takes 4 hours (yes i know it varies, take it as an average if you like) to clean a 3 bed house, therefore he could do 2 a day (personally i would struggle because i prevac, prespray, agitate, move furniture, extract and rinse, place pads under furniture, rake carpet, have a cup of tea and a chat with customer whilst being given their friends number!!).
2X£31 = £62

take off fuel, chemicals, furniture pads,

arrive at gross profit,

take off all the other fixed and variable costs and start crying when you reach zero.

You could have as many employees as you like cleaning as many houses as you like, but for those prices your more likely gonna be suppin with albert steptoe!!

Most of these cheap companies go under eventualy, This country is expensive to live in, their prices seem to stay the same year after year.

I can never understand why they charge say £50 for a 3 bed house when you can get £200 +.

The thought of going out and travelling to 5/6 houses everyday to earn what I can earn in 1 house does not make sense.

I did 6 jobs on Tuesday, I don't consider myself Splash and dash, infact I have been to 4 of them regularly in the past 10 years and the other 2 was a recommend and a customer I have had for 3 years.

But none of them paid £30 a carpet, unless you count the toilet.

I have only just started and i pre-vac prespray agitate move the furniture use the blocks turbo dry ect ect and i am already getting comments on how good a job i am doing . I will carry on doing this as i feel that i am giving the customer a quality job but all this takes time which i hope i will become quicker the more i do but to think i could do 6 jobs a day is like Eastenders on a wednesday (its just not on !)

Do you Vac or Pre Spray or are the leeding lights on carpet cleaning wrong to say we have to do this?

I know the difference in a vacuumed, pre-sprayed carpet. No question what I would go for.

How long does it take you to clean a 4 Bedroom house with 2 receptions and hallway out of interest.

You pay for what you get and get what you deserve.

I was referring to the ebay guy as doing a low paid job.

At £210 for a 4 bed house you are obviously not low paid

I do believe one has to think on their feet with prices.

Do you want the job, how much is custy willing to pay etc.

Did a £60 job yesterday afternoon, 2 rooms and hall , custy who I know,  moving out Friday, wanted a glorified stain removal , no furniture moved etc , took an hour.

4 bed house next week £300 , obviously they have bought a top job and will get one.

phil, i personally dont think pre vac makes a blind bit of diffrence when u hav good machines but thats just my opion when i first started i done all this but when i moved on to better machines i stoped, as for prespray again when u hav a machine that that puts out steam at high pressure i dont think theres any need i m o  and i would say i m o theres a lot who dont,4 bed house 2-2.5 hours max

Actually i have a qualification in accounting, which is why i have the sense to charge a decent price.   Dunno why u are so defensive, we are all talking about a post on ebay, did you not bother do read it??  the maths id easy once you look at the post on ebay,
