I dont.t rip off customers and charge them large amounts of money...and I keep all my customers so no need to go to anybody else..... and all our chemicals and machinery are all throu prochem I belive the leading name in this industry.

To make money you must have to do 5-6 jobs a day when I only do 2 and give them a great deal of time. Who's the rip off merchant. Where are you coming from. Prochem are only the leading name in the business because they are the biggest. Macdonalds are the biggest food supplier in the world, does that make the food good. Obviously you are new to cleaning if you use Prochem lots of better companys out their. Go on the NCCA course and they will put you right about pricing. Good luck to you anyway.

Don't get upset about these idiots there are plenty of them about. The main reason people go out of business is because they don't generate enough income to cover the capital renewal on equipment, vehicles etc. Concentrate on your own business, keep your customers happy and you will succeed.
A lot of firemen do carpet cleaning on their weeks off shift. There is one I know of has been charging £18 for lounge, hall, stairs and landing for the last 10 years.

think we hav bin down this rd few times before, its horse for courses, just becasue they charge low dont mean they are a rip off,a fool ,or bad for other carpet cleaners, the punter who pays £20 to hav her lounge cleaned wouldnt dream of having the bloke who charges £60,and y ? because they couldnt aford to. so u guys who charge the lot higher prices hav nothing to fear as they would never phone u full stop. lets face it the guys who are lot dearer justifie their high prices by "over the top cleaning" imo , i am prob hal;f the price most of u guys charge ,but my punters keep coming back , i own my own 4 bed house brought my van outright and my eqp , and drive a 3 year old soft top bmw (also paid for) and some would regard me as a splash and dash mmmm must be doing something right

Just had an ex. customer on to me nearly in tears, she has just had all her carpets cleaned today (3 bed house) for £45.00 by a man who she said looked like an un-made bed, left his car out of sight, walked in with a vax and the carpets are as good as runined.

They are soaking wet, and very sticky with streaks everywhere, when she called me she said she was so sorry that she didnt use me, she said she was a bit short of money and saw this leaflet that looked to good to be true.

Going in on Monday to sort her carpets out.

She also said 2 more people on her road were having the same company this week, one which I had booked in for Friday but phoned me today to say she has found someone cheaper.

Shall I tell her or let her learn the hard way???

But by the sounds of it this bloke does, can I also add he took just 45 mins. to complete the work.

So in effect he is earning £60.00 per hour, so he's not cheap!!

There is no way you can misread this guys, a 3/4 bed house takes at least half a day whether you use a vax or an all singing all dancing truckmount with added bells and whistles. Its not hard to work out his hourly rate, it sucks.
Theres no way he's gonna be driving a soft top BM unless he has at least 20 employees doing 2 houses a day each, and even then i would be suprised.

I suspect its a case of... Stainguard/deodorizer/anti allergy etc add ons.

Can someone explain the math to me about these cheap prices. Obviously they are going on Volume & speed but surely it just does not add up.

Cleaning Co whats the secret as I always get people looking for bottom price but have found that they are the ones that want everything for nothing.

I am doing it wrong by going after the higher price market?

stick with the higher prices i say, you lose a few quotes but end up doing just 5 or 6 jobs per week for the same money as the cheap guy whose done 15-20, he's knackered and had more chance of errors while you put your feet up with plenty of well off referrals.

I did one job today at my own speed (now very slow) took just over 4 hours carpet only and charged £250.00 customer was very happy, my 4th clean for them this year.

When I first started 6 years ago I subed to a Splash and Dash, one Saturday I cleaned for him 5 suites, 3 H/S/L and 2 lounges he paid me £70.00 I used my own machine and chemicals and tavalled over 80 miles in the day at my own expence, FOOL ME!! I know which way is the easist and more profitable.

u put chems and steam on to the carpet suck it back up and hey presto u only gone and cleaned it !!! and madam gos wow looks great heres u £30 pounds 6 months later she phones u up again and says please come do my carpets again as u made such a good job last time and it only cost £30 pounds o and can u do my freinds as well as she had a bloke round doing this test and that test blah blah waffle waffle waffle "i can do it for £150 pounds" she only wanted it cleaned !! not pampered !! lmfco again !!

All i was saying is that by charging these amounts you have to do 5-6 jobs a day to make it pay, I do 2 and am normally finnished by 3pm. What about set-up time, pre-spray and vacuum is this all included for the £30 or does this not happen.

I know that cleaning is not that hard but its the service you should be offering, I charge higher prices but what they get for this is, 5 Free re-visits to remove stains that they cant be removed, Free re-fills of Stain Remover plus the knowledge that I am available for all there carpet concerns.

So stain removel is easy is it? Try getting Tizzer out of a wool carpet. You wont do that for £30.

We can all make money what ever way we do it but for me it is far more rewarding in offering a returant service not a Macdonalds take-away if you get my meaning. We do this to have a nice life, not that we will be worn out by the time we are 50.

Whatever any of us do there will always be a range of prices from ridiculously low to extortinate.

For me it boils down to, do I want to earn £30 an hour or £60?

Also as John said earlier on you are not really running a business at the low end prices ,more like doing a low paid job.

I think you missed the point,

example

1 guy takes 4 hours (yes i know it varies, take it as an average if you like) to clean a 3 bed house, therefore he could do 2 a day (personally i would struggle because i prevac, prespray, agitate, move furniture, extract and rinse, place pads under furniture, rake carpet, have a cup of tea and a chat with customer whilst being given their friends number!!).
2X£31 = £62

take off fuel, chemicals, furniture pads,

arrive at gross profit,

take off all the other fixed and variable costs and start crying when you reach zero.

You could have as many employees as you like cleaning as many houses as you like, but for those prices your more likely gonna be suppin with albert steptoe!!

Most of these cheap companies go under eventualy, This country is expensive to live in, their prices seem to stay the same year after year.

I can never understand why they charge say £50 for a 3 bed house when you can get £200 +.

The thought of going out and travelling to 5/6 houses everyday to earn what I can earn in 1 house does not make sense.

I did 6 jobs on Tuesday, I don't consider myself Splash and dash, infact I have been to 4 of them regularly in the past 10 years and the other 2 was a recommend and a customer I have had for 3 years.

But none of them paid £30 a carpet, unless you count the toilet.

I have only just started and i pre-vac prespray agitate move the furniture use the blocks turbo dry ect ect and i am already getting comments on how good a job i am doing . I will carry on doing this as i feel that i am giving the customer a quality job but all this takes time which i hope i will become quicker the more i do but to think i could do 6 jobs a day is like Eastenders on a wednesday (its just not on !)

Do you Vac or Pre Spray or are the leeding lights on carpet cleaning wrong to say we have to do this?

I know the difference in a vacuumed, pre-sprayed carpet. No question what I would go for.

How long does it take you to clean a 4 Bedroom house with 2 receptions and hallway out of interest.

I was referring to the ebay guy as doing a low paid job.

At £210 for a 4 bed house you are obviously not low paid

I do believe one has to think on their feet with prices.

Do you want the job, how much is custy willing to pay etc.

Did a £60 job yesterday afternoon, 2 rooms and hall , custy who I know, moving out Friday, wanted a glorified stain removal , no furniture moved etc , took an hour.

4 bed house next week £300 , obviously they have bought a top job and will get one.

phil, i personally dont think pre vac makes a blind bit of diffrence when u hav good machines but thats just my opion when i first started i done all this but when i moved on to better machines i stoped, as for prespray again when u hav a machine that that puts out steam at high pressure i dont think theres any need i m o and i would say i m o theres a lot who dont,4 bed house 2-2.5 hours max

I think its a really good price to pay. After all you only get what you pay for, if you want some guy you dont know if you can trust and a job that takes around twenty mins. then its great its cheap you dont have to stay in and wait a long time for him to finish and when you leave he may be back. Oh and remember when he damages your carpets you can claim for new ones. GO for it and he might even give you a free MUG.

I know of other respected Cleaners on these boards (not me) who do not Pre Vac and Pre Spray Aggitate etc but have very powerful machines,

And use good quality cleaning products.

But how much do you charge for this 4 Bed House?

I could not work out if it was £210 or £65

i dont do all the prevac and stuff as i think my machines and good chems is enough but i dont think of my self as splas n dash i just do work for the cheaper side of carpet cleaning ie people who cant aford £120 for 3pc and they are happy and pleased to pay me £60, on capets i charge min £30 room and i book over tjhe phone never survey
i use crystal green and doulbe clean and dont sell stain guard
neil like i said before i dont think prevac pespray if u hav right eqp, and my cleans will stay as good looking as long as yours but thats just opion u just justifing your higher prices and thats fair play

Also on deteriation in six months , is it not reccomended that Traffic Lanes recieve an interim six monthly clean which is included in origional price
