Mike Osbourne had I a very intersting day on Thursday.

Mike came up from Weston Super Mare to north Cheshire to collect his newly aquired Chemspec Avenger truck mount that he purchased off me.
He got here about 10.30 and after a cuppa the I set it up for Mike to have a little play with it with his wand that he brought.
Should have seen the look on his face when I turned the throttle up and he put wand to carpet.  :o

We then disconnected the bits from the Avenger so we could transfer it from my Citroen Relay to his Ford Transit.
We needed plenty of suger in our cuppa to give us the strenght to manouvre the Avenger from one to another.
Actually we did it the easy way and went just down the road where I arranged for a fork lift truck to be available.
One hicup on the way - I did my last job with it Wed afternoon and fogot to empty the waste tank and when we came to take the dischage pipe off it Mike alsmost got the lost over him. Quick reactions saved the day.  ;D  Didnt do it deliberately ....... honest  ::)

Back to my place to connect everything back up and give it a test. It took a time to bleed the air out of the pump system but we got there in the end.
After a well earned bite to eat I think Mike went away a happy man. Sure he will tell you his thoughts.

I know hes played about wit the setup today so may be he will tell you how he has gone on.

Today at 6am I set off for Newcastle Upon Tyne to get to Restormate where John Kelly and his lovely wife Lynn hang out.  Van felt like Hamiltons McClaren cause it had no weight in the back - great!
Got there about 9.30 and after a cuppa (come in handy dont they) John got the Prowler 15hp that was sold to me by a customer/friend of his, into the back of the van.
This machine only had 22 hours on it so virtually new.

Loaded a 400 litre fresh water tank against the back of the bulkhead, then the Prowler - nice fit.
John arranged to clean 2 largish rugs for the owner of the unit next door so I had a good workout with the Prowler and thats when I also got to try the Flexi 5 I spoke of in another thread.

After another cuppa and a walk thro Johns unit checking out all the tubs of cleaning fluids and bits and pieces he has there I was on my way home by 12.20.

Took the scenic route home, going across from Scotch Corner on the A1 to Tebay and the M6.
Home by 4.20 - bit longer route but beautiful scenery - cant beat it up there.

So Mike with his Chemspec Avenger and me with my Prowler - very interesting times ahead - perhaps more so with Mike as he takes on work with his "new" aquisition and venture into TM's

I strapped one to my leg for the journey home.  ;D

Shaun - on the way up I certainly knew I had an empty van - it just flew.
Coming back with the Prowler, I felt I had a weight advantage over the Avenger. Obviously no waste tank in itself is a big saving but the Prowler must weigh less then the Avenger anyway.

John - truly was a nice day made all the better by the company I kept. Yes, looking forward to a play around tomorrow then out earning the money Monday morning before I go to Leicester for the Tile & Grout course on Tuesday.
Sorry didnt spend as much as Shaun did when he visited recently. I know my 2 and sixpence didnt match his 4 shillings. ;D

Hi guys,

A big thanks to Joe who made yesterday go really smooth. He organised a fork lift via his brothers firm and will have to clean their carpet sometime to return the favour. ;D

He patiently went through things with me fired her up and I proceeded to test out the power on Joe's hallway. Even with a glide it lifted up the carpet when I lifted the wand.

Then we broke it down and went to the forklift place and in the end we had about five guys helping out which was really appreciated.

Once tranferred it was back to Joes and within no time it was up and running. :)

This morning was to do a few dry runs. Went to fire up, pulled th choke all the way out as per instructions. Wouldn't start and I thought Here we go! Anyway turned out it didn't need the choke and fired up when I pushed it back in.

Did next doors carpet and then in the afternoon did my first job. Was a little apprehensive but it was fine and custy was none the wiser.

I've had a lot of help from members here and on the other board and I wouldn't have got the machine if it hadn't been for peoples generosity with their time, especially Dave Ingram who is an absolute top bloke.

Thanks also to Dave Liahona who inspires the best out of people and also thanks to Mr Gribble who's words of wisdom kept my feet on the ground when I was getting far too ahead of myself.

Blimey, sound like an Oscar acceptance speech  ;D

Thanks Guys!

ps nearly forgot Mossy who has helped me out of a few scrapes a time or two  ;D

Nice fit, organise some racking and when you get a hose reeel you'll have plenty of space, well done!

One word of advice is to chabge oil regularly and keep a spare air filter.

We're having a big debate on the TM forum about over weight vans with TMs.  I afraid to say but your SWB transit maybe over the weight with a full tank of water etc.

Get it weighed for your piece of mind.

All the best.

I reckon the machine (Avenger) is about 250kg max, and the 275 litre of fresh water another 250kg max.

No where near yet I dont think - stand corrected though.

Dont forget this Avenger is one of the smaller TMs, smaller then most on that forum.

Re: New Owners
« Reply #32 on: March 21, 2009, 07:38:06 pm »
Read that thread before I got the van. Would have prefered a 300 but got a 280.

SWB low roof I've got a better margin than the big van boys. The Tm is light enough for me to jiggle around so it can't be that heavy.

I've got a fairly standard load 150ft hose, air mover, vacuum, and possibly rotary for some jobs.

I weighed my two weeks ago.  200kg under the limit and its a 350 lwb transit.  Boxer 421, 3/4 a tank of water, portable, chems, hose, etc etc.

1litre or water is 1 kg I believe + weight of tanks, plyline, you etc etc.

Dont estimate get it weighed.

Dennis - I know very well some of the names from the 50's - the start of Ove Fundins career which took him to world champion many times, the last in 1967 when he rode for Belle Vue.
About 4 years ago I contacted Ove via his web site and got a nice email back.

Sheffield - Belle Vue derbys were always good matches, as was with Halifax - war of the roses Lancs v Yorks.

My claim to fame was 1964 when I won the British Junior Cycle Speedway Championship at Raynes Park, south London.

Well Steve, I'm chuffed to bits with my machine, Joe has looked after it well.

I'm still sorting the van out and getting into a routine with setting up etc. I guess the main thing I'm worried about is I do something to knacker it.

Other things like hose runs along the pavement and the noise, just think someones going to come over and complain. I've now bought some traffic cones so I'm official now ;D

Made a big difference to a suite today, just lifts the dirt straight out and it was a bit of a minger. Even started using the stair tool I bought and didn't think much of, I think it was designed for a TM. So stairs will be quicker too.

Spent half an hour getting petrol, dumping water and refilling and having a bit of a sort out, but a small price to pay time wise.

Hi Steve
Used it Monday morning - started to earn its money.

Its a pig to start but I will get that sorted.
But when it goes it is really good.
Did a mancky flat carpet - just lifted it clean.
Really pleased.
Is lighter in the van then the Avenger too.

Just got back from a tile and grout cleaning course with Steve Carpenter in Leicester.
About 14 of us including Steve Knight who had his HM 470D running with a spinner.
Now that s a big machine !

I don't know, but he needs a reel. ;D

Joe, how much clearwater rinse should I put in that tank rather than use the CF?

Bet it looks grand on that new bit of carpet Joe. ;)

Mike you can put Clear water rinse in your water tank and it will aid in keeping the scale down.

30ml with every 5 gall (22.5 litre) of water. - very economic.

Not looking quite so grand yet Mike, not got the carpet - should have been in stock today but I been in Leicester.
