Please excuse me if I sound a little daft but why are upvc downpipes not used for gutter vacuuming? Is it because they are too heavy or brittle? I do not use a gutter vacuuming system but would love to put one together as cheaply as possible. I have absolutely no experience whatsoever but am very intrigued.

I use  UPC tubes and the get brittle in the cold winters as well as droopy and imposable over first floor. I have used my slx with a flexible hose with a upvc  pipe on the top so its is exposed on the outside of the pole. I never use the top section to lift the vac hose but start on the sec 2 to provide strength.

If you make each section really short it may work. But then I wouldn't want to spend 2 hours setting up a pole lol

Don't waste your time and energy putting waste pipes together your gonna look aright plum at a customers house having a half hearted attempt at cleaning them 

Might seem a lot to lay out the cost on poles but it soon pays for its self.

 If you wanna do diy and save money then try doing carbon fishing poles instead.

Someone off here (can't remember who), think it may be someone who does pressure washing uses clear plastic poles. Seem better as you can see if there's a blockage and they seem rigid. I'll see if i can find the video of it.

yes smurfs right they might last 10 jobs if your lucky they must be able to withstand and knock here and there. Go pro cam are great idea to so you can see what's what while cleaning.

Nozzles are worth making from plastic as you can heat them up and shape them to your needs, I did some about 18 months ago if you search through old posts on here.

The clear acrylic tubes seem to be used in the usa, they would be quite rigid, but heavy as with most stuff things evolve, with go pro etc it's really easy to see what's going on, theses were not available a few years back.  And now you can get a set of poles for very little money which really kills off any effort to DIY a set

I hope they have change the poles since I last pick them up just one section of there pole weighed around 1kg so add another 4 onto this mate.  I ended up with tennis elbow from using those years ago mate the price might look good.

Most get rid of those ali poles in the link as are too fooking heavy espesially on actue angles. They will get even heavier when crap builds up on the inside walls of the poles and nozzles.

I started off saying the same... Do 2 jobs a month lol.. Now it's 5 a week minimum.

Just wait on and buy when you can afford some better ones don't make the mistake I made years ago.

Guttervacsystems do a better and lighter pole set check those instead

If you have never tried gutter clearing with a vac before you have no idea how difficult it can be so the more robust and light weight the poles are the more work you can get through without killing yourself in the process.

Yeah i do gutter vac and have both Alloy poles and the grippa/gardiners poles. I also understand what you mean when you say you can tell when they're blocked etc.. I've never actually had a go of them clear tubes, but something about them appeals to me. Might just be the effect of seeing everything flowing.

You have hit the nail on the head as the only appealing thing is seeing the crap being sucked up through the clear plastic tubes and that is about it. As for being practical they look a total waste of space if you ask me and the wet tile grit/crud will eventually stick to the inside so you will see bugger all
