Hi Mark

I had this happen to me several times on another site.  I took it up with the site manager and he couldn't come up with an answer as to why.

I have posted since satisfactorily

As moderator on this section of Clean-it Up I have the ability to delete posts but, to date, haven't had the need apart from altering one word in a post.
I am not that computer literate to give any more technical reasons...sorry

Regards
Derek

Hi Mark
Yes the post was deleted because it didnt justify being added as a seperate topic - it should really have been added to the one that was already current.
Hopefully you wont take it personally, we will shorlty have a new 'open section' where anything can be discussed. (unfortuantely, we've just removed a post about the rugby which, although interesting, is just not relevent!)
As someone who has made a valuable contribution to this site we're sure you will want to keep the membership growing by keeping the content interesting!

As the originator of the post about the Rugby World Cup, I find your "interesting but not relevent (sic)" strange.
OK, I'm not in the UK and I realise the board is run by a company interested in selling cleaning stuff, but there are only so many times you can ask the same questions on cleaning matters...what happens when they are exhausted? You end up with a board like Cleanfax on which the page changes about once a month. That, from a board which lead the field five years ago, but because of the ineptitude of the moderator, lost almost all of it's custom. It's only recently that with the arrival of a former CC as Editor, and the relaxation of the "industry only" posts allowed  until then, has that board improved it's visitation rate.
You've lost me if that's the rule...and the bulk of the Aussie contingent. But, I guess that doesn't worry you - I'm not likely to buy from you.

Jim

BTW, why is the Rememberance Sunday thread still standing...or is that another standard?  Hmmm.. "relevent (sic) "

Good Point Jim,

What puzzled me somewhat was my post was cc related and why wasnt it just moved to the "appropriate topic"  instead of deleted.

My post was to thank the people that participated in our discussions on sunday night. I felt it was good manners of myself to thank these people for their time and to see if we could link up again sometime.

But Mark, the point you miss is....who is going to win the Cup?? Grin
Let's see how long this post lasts...perhaps I should have snuck it into the Rememberance day thread Roll Eyes

Mark.

Anyway, we have a nice little group going in our chat room now and some good ideas flying around.

Hi Mark
If it could have been moved then it would have been - if you had posted it in the original topic then, of course, there wouldn't have been an issue.
Jim
What you have to bear in mind is that if a potential new member visits the site and sees Rugby topics (or whatever) then they are less likely to consider it as a professional cleaning forum.
We're keen to learn from other forums which may have lost thier 'momentum' and will adapt ours to suit. Your comments have been noted, however, until we have an area where 'anything goes' this is our stance.
It would concern us to lose yourself but, as the saying goes, you can please some of the people all the time.......

So why is the Rememberance Day thread still standing?
Where is the consistency?

Can I post a thread about World Peace?

Jim
Posted by admin (Forum Admin), 11 November 2003
I get the feeling this this all about your insecurity over the rugby Grin
Posted by Jim_Lynch (Jim_Lynch), 11 November 2003
Far from it...if you actually read my original post, I tipped a NZ/France final.

I think the point you are missing is that we are not one dimensional...we are carpet cleaners by profession, but we are also men and women with interests outside that narrow field.
Most of us after a hard day, and night's, work come here and the other boards to see what's happening with our colleagues, sort out a technical problem, or generally shoot the breeze and socialise with our peers.
Technical talk is fine, but it gets awfully boring after a while, and as I said earlier, you can ask the same question only so many times.
Also, unless you embargo non-UK residents, you are going to get people from all countries checking in here and mingling with the predominantly UK members. From the various boards on which I participate there are cleaners from the USA, Australia, New  Zealand,Canada,Israel and even Iceland, plus the UK.
OK, you aren't going to sell stuff to these people, but is that the only reason you set up this board?
Carpet cleaning alone can be awfully boring....speak to Humphrey on Cleanfax . He has a magazine to back him up, because on it's own his discussion board would attract virtually no advertisers.

And I ask again, to be consistent, why is the Rememberance Day thread still standing, admirable as it is?

Im onlly sorry I missed the live chat.

I am supprised that the Forumn Admin has not got better things to do than delete posts that are in the wrong section or in appropriate.

When we all trying to help one another.

However I do agree I would not want to see it go like some US sites where you get no new posts or they are completley non cleaning rel.ated and full of in jokes.

Dont really know what I am talking about

I have always taken the view that these bulletin boards and forums are not about carpet cleaning, but about carpet cleaners. We are predominantley conducting our working lives on our own or in very small teams. If we were to have a "conventional" working life, surrounded by 10's or even 100's of colleagues, we would discuss everything to do with the job along with the merits of  "The Doctor" leaving Honda for Yamaha right through to taking our parents to the clinic for a flu jab. These forums are this extension to our working lives. I agree that somethings would be irrelevent, such as "What time does the porn chanel come on air" or "I think the Suez Canal should be nationalised by the Argentinian Goverment" In other words, a forum can only be as good as it's members and moderators. It's often the chat and banter that gives it appeal.

Just my 'appenceworth Cool

Mark,

I thought the marketing discussion we all had on Sunday night was very informative and very RELEVANT to all carpet cleaning companies who visit the Cleanitup forum.

Many thanks for going to the trouble of setting it up, i think the administrator needs to lighten up a bit!
