Posted by denzle (Denzle), 2 February 2004
Is it just my imagination or is it fact, since i have been on this forum the amount of spam e.mails seems to have gone mad. Everyday i get at least 10 e.mails trying to sell me pills to improve my manhood etc.
Maybe they know something i don't  Wink
Anyone getting the same problem or know of a way to stop them clogging up my mailbox.

Funny you should say that I had 126 attempts to track my computor yesterday of which 3 were attempts to hack my system. I only visited this site !
I was going to call in a specialist to find out who was attempting to break in.

If its the same email company that keeps sending the same ones, you can block them through outlook express. If its because you have a web-site, & thats usually the case, get yourself a good firewall, I use Norton. The last few days, I've had at least 20 emails with the "Hi" virus. These are eliminated straight away. The Norton also stops all the pop-ups.

Well i have to say that apart from online banking i usually only come to this site to see whats been posted.
I use a couple of programs to clean the system out on a daily basis and there are dozens of attacks on my system. But these e.mails are getting more and more each day, all advertising the same instant growth pills.
Its getting tedious.

The e.mails are all from different people and never the same e.mail address twice, so you can't just filter them.

Why don't you threaten to buy them, then when they give out an actual email address, send 'em a few emails yourself until they unsubscribe you.

Hi Dennis
When you get these e mails have you ever clicked the unsubscribe button that some have Huh Because i was told never to respond in any way even on unsubscribe because it shows its an active e mail address and then it gets passed on Roll Eyes

Try this  http://www.mailwasher.net/
Its a great piece of software which allows you to check mail at the server before downloading
If you dont want any of it delete or bounce it back to the sender which makes them think you are a dead link so removing you from there system.
If I start getting Spam I use this for a while till it stops.

PS. it works for hotmail as well
PPS. ITS FREE

I've had no problems with any spam. What Internet security do you use Steve?

I've got Norton which I keep updated and I don't have a problem with them (spam that is..). Wink

I had a e mail from some com artist telling me his company had x million pounds to get rid of and they needed a bank account overseas to send the money to.I sent a e mail back telling him what to do with his money and where to put it. I received over 2 thousand replys and could not open my e mail account as it kept on crashing , in the end my server had to delete all off them so now if I get any I just delete them myself  its a pain but thats life

If that mail was from some African royalty, I had one of those. I put a block on it and I've had no problems since.

All that money would by a nice water-fed pole system though! Wink Grin

Hi Glyn

I can assure you that your hacking has nothing to do with this site! To try and hack your computer someone would need your IP address which can't be seen by other members.

While I entirely support the issue of providing details of who you are in your 'signature' section of your profile I would not recommend you have your email address open to public view (something else that can be chosen from the profile section).

The way spammers work is by crawling the internet looking for random email addresses. This site will not allow these 'crawlers' to pick up your email address because someone has to register to access it. However, it is possible that other members and / or suppliers will use your email address in one way or another to contact you.

Spam email is one of my pet hates and if members do start getting unwanted emails from suppliers please let us know.

The best system for stopping junk emails is Spamarrest (htpp://www.spamarrest.com). It's not free but it does stop unwanted email. Basically you set up a list of 'allowed senders' and then anyone else who emails you has to confirm they are who they say they are. This stops all the junk that is sent out in bulk.

Unfortunately, the more times your email address appears online the more junk you'll be sent. They say that over 80% of all emails sent at the moment are junk emails and I have serious doubts that any legislation will ever stop it!

Regards

Mike

Posted by Mike_Boxall (Mike_Boxall), 6 February 2004
...it's better to use a form!

just use a MAIL ME HERE Button with HTML to link to your e.mail address
